As unattractive as communism to women? I gotta say, putting a Lenin meme, a ☭, and “Let’s overthrow the ruling class together ❤️” in my Bumble bio did not cause me any trouble getting dates. It honestly seemed like a big plus.

I saw this study a while ago, and while I think it’s pretty heavily BS, it did make me wonder: for how many women is being a Rogan listener attractive, versus how many women is being a communist attractive? I cannot name a single woman who would be more interested in someone if she knew they listened to the Dumb Guy Enables Fascism show, but I can name many who would be more interested and comfortable with someone who self-identifies as a communist.

So say 70% of women find being a communist unattractive and 70%, find listening to Rogan unattractive but then 20% find being a communist attractive vs none find listening to Rogan attractive? That’s an answer I’d believe.

I know like 2 women who are joe rogan defenders and they’re both about 50 and terf-adjacent if not terfs themselves, and run in a circle that I would describe as “former radlibs” (people who live a sort of bohemian lifestyle but whose politics are stuck in early 2000s radlib-dom and for many of them, regressing in the face of social change)

Yeah it’s gotta be this. Polarizing and “hated by everyone who has an opinion about it” are different but if you only measure negative reactions they look different the same.

        EDIT:posting while sleepy

      • I mean, I’m not into men so I’m probably not the type of woman they’re trying to poll, but I’m definitely… being a communist in and of itself won’t make someone I wasn’t already interested in attractive to me, but I do feel more attracted to a cute girl who’s also a commie.

Yeah, registered partisan Democrats regardless of the gender are basically insufferable. Most young women and men are apolitical, and due to that young men and women are usually more accepting of alternative viewpoints. Idk about it making you attractive though.

I mean I get why communism is a turn off to normies. Politics is boring and depressing especially if you actually understand what’s going on. And people want their treats and to have fun. But I for one will never stfu about communism a-guy

It’s hard to overstate just how little Americans understand about communism. My own parents just think it’s about atheism. I’m not even talking about people who have opinions on it but are wrong like “communism is when people are taxed to make everyone’s incomes equal”. I’m talking about the majority who can only loosely associate communism with “really bad thing”. Something like a vague notion that is evil like the Nazis but instead they were Russians. Our official “big boss” enemy. Their minds literally just go to cold and snow and all-male choirs singing Russian and big tanks and nukes.

      • These people do not know what communism is. It’s true of the entire Anglosphere. Hell, I do act like a stereotypical Soviet sympathiser and my mum still has no idea I’m a communist, since I don’t call myself one in front of her. (She’d never claim to be a socialist. And insists she’s not a communist. But when we discuss actual questions of economic and social policy… well, I think she’d have liked Cold War era USSR more than Cold War era USA. And we tend to agree on most things, even when I don’t hold back the way I usually do in mixed company. And if communist revolution were to break out in our country, she’d stay put, she isn’t viscerally ideologically opposed enough to uproot her life even further under such circumstances.)

any woman that is turned off by communism can go advocate for their own subjugation in someone else’s ear. i dont need women like that in my life. keep advocating for a system that didnt wanna give you the right to vote and only “liberated” you to the point that it can exploit you for your labor and reproductive capability.

To be fair, this is basically just a measure of how many women are “moderate liberals”. Being too into politics is seen as a red flag, and to removed from politics is a red flag.

Also, to be fair, there is a bit of a stigma with communist guys that I can definitely see influencing that position. Especially if their only interaction with them is the more aggressive CPUSA/Trot types at lib protests.

I openly identify as a communist, and haven’t noticed it turning anyone off. Have seen a lot of guys obsessed with Rogan strike out…

Bit of an apples to oranges comparison, if you ask me. If you meet a communist they might get their ideas and news from any one of dozens of sects. If you meet a Joe Rogan guy he gets his news from Joe Rogan.

Even taking off my commie and anti-racist hats… I cannot understand the uncontrollable urge some white dudes have to say the n-word (all the while telling you they definitely aren’t racist). Even at my worst, when I was a sort of a libertarian asshat who considered myself not racist but didn’t believe in institutional racism… never in a million years did I want to say that word. Like, even in a situation where there would have been zero consequences. I honestly don’t get it.

Oh, you had a libertarian phase too? Mine lasted maybe a month or two before ascending to the more ideologically consistent view of anarchism and then to being a full blown communist a few years later.

        • Yeah, same. Right libertarians say things about children’s rights/freedoms that sound right if you’ve never been into politics before and that issue’s really appealing if you’re a young kid frustrated at how society treats you with no more autonomy than your pet cat, sometimes less. But if that hadn’t happened I wouldn’t have drifted over to left-anarchism when I figured out right libertarians are self contradictory and bigoted conservatives, and if I hadn’t been interested in arguing with “them damn tankies” I wouldn’t have wound up an ML, so I guess I’m glad it happened.

From the link to the change research poll info:

    METHODOLOGY
Change Research surveyed 1,033 registered voters ages 18-34 nationwide from August 25-September 1, 2023. Change Research self-funded this research for public release. We used the following sources to recruit respondents:
    ● targeted advertisements using the Meta advertising platform
    ● SMS text messages
Regardless of which of these sources a respondent came from, they were directed to a survey hosted on SurveyMonkey’s website.
Ads placed on social media targeted likely voters nationwide. Those who indicated that they were not registered to vote were terminated. Those who indicated they were over the age of 34 were terminated. As the survey fielded, Change Research used dynamic online sampling: adjusting ad budgets, lowering budgets for ads targeting groups that were overrepresented, raising budgets for ads targeting groups that were underrepresented. The survey was conducted in English. The survey was conducted online by Change Research. Post-stratification weighting was performed on age, gender, region, education, ethnicity, and 2020 presidential vote. Weighting parameters were based on the demographic composition of likely voters nationwide, obtained from the voter file. The modeled margin of error* for this survey is 3.4%, which uses effective sample sizes** that adjust for the design effect of weighting.

Honestly how can one even conduct polls in this day and age.

I mean, Facebook ads???. I’m not even on Facebook, and I’d imagine a lot of the people who are have had their brains cooked! And even moreso for someone who clicks on an advertisement.

I really feel like what is needed is for text messaging to be improved by a lot before this stuff can be considered reliable. I want to actually know that the link I’m clicking on is from a trustworthy organization. But even then, there are probably differences in terms of who responds to polls.

  • sometimes i forget joe rogan listeners are real. the other day i was sitting with some coworkers while they discussed what they listen to. i didn’t say anything because all my shit is niche dork/left shit or some b.s. i have a parasocial relationship to… and i like listening to opinions more than speaking them these days, seeing as how familiar i am with my own already.

anyway, one coworker was really down on podcasts and preferred music, but would listen to NPR if they wanted to learn something (lol). then they offered that their brother only listens to podcasts and literally only listens to joe rogan and i started laughing before i could stop myself. because rogan listening is too on-the-nose, it feels like the setup for a bit. like somebody saying their favorite beer is bud lite or their favorite books are harry potter or their favorite movies are the mission impossible series. it’s like saying “my favorite thing is actually the only thing i’m familiar with at all.”

    anyway.

i didn’t get into communism to turn on women and glimpse their booba. awooga

i got into communism because i was curious and figured knowing more was better than knowing less. powercry-2

or their favorite movies are the mission impossible series.

I think Marvel movies would be a more apt comparison these days, I don’t think they’ve made any mission impossible movies in over a decade.

          spoiler alert: it sucked lol.

          • enough star power to provision a universal school lunch program
          • exotic locales and highly complex stunts with spectacular set pieces
          • mind-numbingly stupid premise and conflict

to be clear, i saw it for free and knew it was gonna be lame as hell, but i still felt ripped off lol.

we are approaching the 30 year anniversary of the first one (itself a reboot of the 1960s TV show), and what is extraordinarily absurd, the lead role of high intensity action is played by the same fucking guy who is 63 in earth years and qualifies for social security, but will also qualify for medicare in a little over a year. they still play it completely straight, like his shambling, broken posture body (at like 4% body fat, salute) can do all this acrobatic shit. they pull out all the stops to make his face smooth and young, which is as disturbing as it is distracting.

ten years ago, when he was in his early 50s, he could play late 30s. but now that hes in his 60s, he should not play any role under 60.

Being a communist has never once affected my sex life in a negative way. I’ve told women that I listened to Joe Rogan before (I was a fan in his pre Spotify days) and also never affected it.

The only time those things have stopped me from getting laid is when I get too drunk and start demanding excitedly that they read some books I’ve read. I also do this with sci-fi though so I think it’s not so much the media I ingest as my personality that unseals the deal.

I kind of wondered about this when I saw that graph. Holy crap, people who are attracted to men have some big minefields to deal with and limited positive options available to them! No wonder men have a bad reputation and that graph doesn’t even touch a lot of it (like violence, etc.).
