  • the worst is when they do this in interviews. apparently during the agile dev craze some middle managers mixed the idea of ‘KPIs’ into the granular work-tracking that is involved in ‘agile software development’. apparently ‘key performance indicators’ which were previously. only known to the business analyst class of office priests has been foisted upon engineering departments too

  • by its very nature there will always be more friction doing almost anything in Linux compared to windows or mac os. you’re not wrong or stupid.

it’s not the second coming of christ just a different philosophy of using the computer. i do think that actually knowing how a computer works instead of the hyper convenience of modern OSes is valuable. Hell, using windows by default makes most advanced-nerd-stuff slightly more difficult. With windows and mac (i don’t notice it as much on mac tbh) you also have to work backwards to de-bloat the systems which is wrong.

here’s my searing take that would fix this: communism. Under my regime a tech company would make the one operating system and it would be all the best parts of dedicated support and convenience found in closed source OSes while not doing all the bloat stuff. yes it would be open source but it would be so good you’d never experience what you did
