It sounds like the pinned public shaming post that definitely wasn’t meant to be an attack on KR had its intended effect.

I think some of what the user said was backwards, like I commented in the first thread about this, but I agree that this is a microcosm of liberal hypocrites and how they use their own “rules-based” international order (and of course that the treatment was ridiculous and undeserved).

it’s the only explanation that makes sense; why else would reddit and instagram tolerate advertisements for piefed and lemmy.world, but not any of the others.

Rudd was included in a group of mastodon admins of large instances who were invited to meet with Meta representatives before Threads was launched. Rudd is the primary admin of lemmy.world and is one of the few that did not sign onto the anti-meta pact of lemmy admins. Other .world admins have worked closely with Rimu on piefed development.

if my suspicions about them are correct --that want to migrate people off of lemmy and onto piefed because of lemmy’s access to leftist content. then i can see how it will happen with rudd and rimu’s efforts.

Largest imprisoned population, massive exporter of war, hosts almost all the richest most exploitative capitalists in the world, props up dictators around the world, multiple instances of interfering with democracy because they didn’t like the result, literally makes children swear allegiance in school, holds the world to ransom every time they don’t get what they want, disregards international law.

Thinking it’s basically ok with some tweaks? Wholesome chungus opinion.

        Largest imprisoned population

It cannot be stressed enough that this figure is NOT PER CAPITA. The US has the largest total number of prisoners of any nation on earth. It’s fucking obscene the scale of the US prison system. Unimaginably worse than the worst depictions of the soviet gulag system.

40 years is the rough time period most people consider “modern” for contemporary events. Going older than 40 seems like “history” to most people.

I wouldn’t call it a dodge, everyone knows China has participated in a couple of invasions/bombings in the earlier part of its history, the point is that in the last 40 decades they have not, so if we are to evaluate how they are now or how they will be in the immediate future, that seems like a useful thing to point out.

Of fucking course the chaser-inclusive instance is putting a trans woman on blast for having opinions that make the liberals uncomfortable and ofc they whitewash it by performative “please do not bully the t slur we just put on blast” post. Mind you, i’m not saying it’s absolutely and definitely intentional, i can’t know this. My point is that the more acceptable it is to hate somebody, the more this type of exposure takes on a certain dynamic. We need to keep in mind here how virulently anti-communist 196 is, this is absolutely baiting them whether it’s on purpose or not.

This could have been a note in the modlog. That wouldn’t have been less transparancy in any way. You do not need a show trial like this to remove an inactive mod.

Yeah, a note on the modlog would have been the way handle it, I feel like! The abundance of screenshots seemed particularly unnecessary. Like, 196 is broadly willing to believe anyone is a “tankie” without tons of screenshots. The addition of the screenshots sort of feels like the post is saying “we want to put this person on blast, please read this and get angry”

hexbear was originally a completely separate website that was built out of the same code as lemmy, and was eventually merged with the rest of the fediverse well after a specific culture was able to develop here. Federation was WILD

Lemmy also didn’t have support for federation when Hexbear first popped up, and the Hexbear devs were a couple weeks away from finishing de-forking their older codebase so they could hop back on the main, federation-capable Lemmy codebase when the Reddit API exodus happened. Awesome timing.

This feud is just so annoying. Just to be clear, I’m not up to date on whatever drama or conflict happened last between the instances depicted, I just find it so stupid. lemmy.ml, lemmygrad and hexbear exist since earlier than probably 95+% of instances out there, and these .worlders act like we are the aggressors because we interact on the federated network they chose to use for their FOSS reddit alternative. There’s a metaphor for colonisation somewhere in there, but I’m too tired to spell it out.

Edit: I see I fell for the meme. Still, my point stands for every time an actual .worlder or the like accused us of invading their online spaces

iirc there isn’t strong evidence linking the CIA but I regardless think Hungary lost a lot of it’s self determination privileges for awhile after joining the Axis. Also not sure how involved the former fascist establishment, if they were largely involved than that’s more reason to justify the crackdown.

Here is an unredacted file from the JFK files release last year that shows them admitting that the “Hungarian Freedom Fighters were Agency [CIA] sponsored”

                https://www.archives.gov/files/research/jfk/releases/2025/0318/104-10115-10074.pdf

Is that the same as admitting to orchestrating a coup? They were certainly funding groups who did orchestrate the coup. And General Kiraly, who organized armed uprisings, was a former Nazi that in the 60s was being recommended as a prime contact for anti-Cuban assets to meet with.

Anyway, there is also this article: https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/mi6-trained-rebels-to-fight-soviets-in-hungarian-revolt-1359599.html about how MI6 was training Hungarians to do a coup.

I think the main argument is that the CIA wasn’t involved until after it had taken off and was never an important element. I have no idea about the truth of that, but that’s what I’ve seen people claim when pressed, but they did admit that the CIA clearly had involvement at some point later on, it just wasn’t important (which might be true, again idk).

It’s not a subject I was ever heavily invested in but I think people focusing on the CIA there rather than the existing problems with the domestic movement is a bit of a conspiracy left affectation.

I’ve certainly encountered conspiracy leftists who are dogshit wrong about zionism, but this seems like kind of a weird fight to pick since that wasn’t the topic at hand.

Am I following right that you are identifying yourself with conspiracy leftism and therefore, seeing a negative remark about it, are trying to tee up what you believe is an open-and-shut defense of it by pivoting to another topic?

I don’t even know what you mean by “respectable left” unless you mean Chomsky types but then why is that a meaningful argument?

Firstly, I’m arab - we have long been smeared by Westerners as all conspiratorial and anti-semitic when we said anything bad about Israel. Including by Western Leftists. So there’s your starting context for why this is problematic and how it’s weaponized for Zionism, including by the very type of people who populate this website.

I’ve been called a conspiracist by Liberal Zionists more times than I’ve been called an anti-semite, they are interchangable left-punching tactics. Calling socialists conspiracists for claiming factual actions of the CIA is another way this manifests. It’s a left-punching attitude with built in pro-Liberal normalcy bias.

We now know for a fact that the CIA was heavily involved in Hungary and the “conspiracists” who claimed it all along, the “tankies” were correct the whole time.

The respectable left (aka the Electoral Left and Synthetic Left) is everyone from Bernard to Mamdani to Chomsky to the DSA to Jacobin to Current Affairs to prominent journalists. Every single prominent and public leftist in the West basically. This site was run by ‘respectable left’ admins who had latent zionist biases, and there was a massive struggle session over it. The kind who call everything anti-semitic and conspiracy theories, while cleaving to the ‘normalcy’ of public opinion. For an overly online example, compare r/socialism to r/trueanon basically, which one has more correct opinions and organic growth/activity? It’s the “conspiracists” not the “respectables”.

For a less online example, I stopped attending DSA when younger because I was called a conspiracist and anti-semite for bringing up criticism of Israel and the US involvement in Syria.

Liberal Zionism among the left is heavily concentrated in the electoralist and squishy types. Principled anti-Zionism is heavily concentrated among the “tankies” and “conspiracist” wings.

The “anti-semitic left” and the “conspiracy left” turned out to just be the actual left, who were correct about everything. Israel and the Epstein affair has proven this in the last 3 years.

This is the second time recently that I have seen an extremely annoying tendency to extrapolate a single comment into an entire community of people. I suppose it is bigoted in this context, and if it is part of a larger rhetorical trend, this is extremely bad for the community.

Calling things “cringe” is a tool social enforcement of anyone that doesn’t fit inside a certain behavioural box. If we don’t think marginalised groups should be marginalised then we shouldn’t use a tool of marginalisation.

Become the cringe. It’s ok. Be a cringe accelerationist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cH-uB_eaLvM

People need to remember that cringe culture is a pipeline that ends at Kiwifarms.

I don’t think this is a line consistently held by the site, see nerd It would be cool if it was, but I think there are some really fundamental issues with the site culture that the user you are responding to is presenting a mild symptom of.

There’s definitely a contingent of people that feel viscerally repulsed by “cringe”. They can’t handle it.

They need exposure therapy, we should be cringier.

Is it a crazy take to say their are groups and actions that deserve to be marginalised as cringe. I’m thinking of groups like the liberal who arrogantly spouts off on a topic they only know of through vibes, reactionaries of all stripes, and being an “apolitical” centrist etc. People who fall into categories such as these deserves to be marginalised as cringe imo for the good of society (and to a point honestly themselves).

You could take the position those actions are cringe from the perspective of a socialist sure, but I don’t know if it’s useful to address the phenomena I’m criticising which is that “cringe” is almost exclusively targeted at queer and socially odd or neurodiverse people.

I would use a different word entirely to describe those reactionary behaviours purely because I want to reduce the targeting of these groups the “cringe” is almost always used to attack.

I 100% get where you’re coming from though and you’re not wrong, my point is mainly about strategy.

We can reject behaviors on a basis other than vague aestheticized social pressure, because that rejection should be for a reason that isn’t just “vibes” or something happening to be or not be convention.

I think it’s quite easy to tell someone not to spout off about shit they are ignorant about with authoritative confidence, but I can just tell them as much (or “No investigation, no right to speak”) without needing to resort to a concept like “cringe”.

Why are you assuming that’s the first thing they thought of rather than an observation that someone hasn’t made yet?

Those people over there are not comrades. They may be one day, but that’s their journey and it hasn’t come to fruition in the slightest yet.
