In Utah and other open carry states leftists have been marching at protests with guns for years, he was probably assembling it on site because it’s easier to transport that way. I agree this wasn’t a good protest for it but he had been armed at protests in the area previously, with other people armed also.

If people see “x prisoner died after hunger strike” I would guess a decent number of Brits would probably say “well they should have eaten then, what do they expect?” And shrug it off. In their memory, the Ukrainian people overthrew the corrupt Russian-backed president in 2014, Russian troops took over part of Ukraine in response, and everything was chill until Putin decided out of nowhere to invade and capture all of Ukraine in 2022.

I have seen data suggest that countries without regulated traffic, ie open roads with no signs or specific directional flow, actually have fewer traffic accidents and safer roads, people figure it out organically when they are accustomed to it. If you suddenly got rid of the signs drivers would be in chaos though.

The movie Black Hawk Down was supposed to make US soldiers look heroic, I saw them just blasting Somalis over and over and thought “wtf are they even there for again??” Then looking at the ratio of deaths afterwards all I could think was they were effective mass murderers.

My only thought is

I have thought “it’s interesting how everyone I get to know that opens up to me is weird, neurotypical, queer, or some other sort of ‘non-normie’.” I tend to be friends with those that fit these categories but I do feel like even most ‘normies’ are much less of the normal archetype on the inside, they are just better at fitting in and putting up with everything.

Yeah it was just the vibe like it was written by a high schooler about what they thought cool radicals were like, and the over sexualized nature, it seemed like the tone would probably shift after the first act but I just didn’t have the energy to hang on. I do think it’s a step in the right direction that hollywood is depicting some sort of leftists as the heroes, it seems hard for a lot of people to visualize things they haven’t seen in media so maybe it will inspire people to investigate their liberalism more.

Two people that supposedly know me very well told me they thought I’d love One Battle After Another but I tried to watch it twice and couldn’t get past 8 minutes the first time, about 20 minutes the second time. Does it get better?

It’s definitely a bit terrifying thinking of the potential, but when I saw a group of police vehicles on fire in my city in 2020 I felt more excited for the future than I ever had before. The human spirit has amazing capacity for courage and perseverance, I feel hope for the future in spite of the horrors likely to come.
