Mullvad ceo is a swede nazi and now this
Is the guy who made ublock origin gonna turn out to be Hitler’s clone

mind sharing evidence.
it’s not that i disagree – and i’m also inclined to believe that it’s true – it’s that western media as taught me that i should see the evidence myself.

Just use one of these instead
The amount they charge in a subscription for the luxury of storing a few megabytes of encrypted file in the cloud and developing an app which if designed securely in the first place should require very little maintenance except bug-fixes related to OS upgrades and API changes is already ridiculous. Figures they’d spend a bunch of that supporting tech fascism given they make their livelihood off renting you something that should be sold once or sold yearly at the amount they charge a month.
Crazy that Omarchy, a distro that’s basically vaporware, is getting almost as much funding as the PSF.
PSF has ~$5m/year, and that money is earmarked for the language and the whole Python ecosystem (including major related projects like PyPi, Ansible, etc.)
A distro that’s just a skin on another distro getting this kinda funding is nutso.
It’s also weird to me because, if we take it at face value: Shouldn’t an AI-built system be super cheap to build and maintain?
If big-tech was telling the truth about how great AI is, it shouldn’t need all this funding or support. The fact that they needed to pump a lot of money into it is pretty telling to me…
And why not just donate AI credits instead of money?
Well, yeah. Anyone who actually has to interact with AI systems knows that it’s just a back box you put developer salaries into and get tech debt out of lol. They need the funding because they need actual devs to pay down the tech debt that’s already been accumulated by the AI code.
Is it still just a collection of configs and installation scripts?
I think it’s expanded a bit, but it’s still not even close to a project like UBlue/Bazzite. Definitely not something that needs Millions in funding. DHH just wants to use that money to pay fascist devs to take over his upstream dependencies.
damn it as a long time i3wm enjoyer I’m watching the demo videos and I am not hating what I am seeing. too much wasted space and visual faff for my taste but keyboard-driven and tiling are both things that more computer operating environments should be
I don’t know why they need so much funding or where all this supposed agent dev time went though
There are plenty of TWMs out there, you can find dozens of spins that have similar functionality that are maintained by like one 18 year old furry kid on a budget of $15
Fedora also has an i3 spin if you want to try something atomic.
Yeah it’s mystifying that this should be so expensive to develop. It’s all nicely integrated but what have they really built? A pretty good menu tool, some themes, and some redundant package distribution infrastructure.
I run my laptop without a GUI at all, just live in tmux. I’ve even vibed up a bunch of TUI utilities to make my browserless life easier. Ran i3 for years before that. Didn’t occur to me that I should ask for donations.
1Password Supports the Ethnic Cleansing of Europe
Oh wait its about a nazi, i thought it was about supporting white genocide
Oh wait its about a nazi, i thought it was about supporting white genocide
but in reverse
fuck’s sake I’ve heard the word “omarchy” too many times in the last week for this to be organic
A bunch of rich assholes just gave them several million dollars
themselves*
For a second I thought this was about cleansing Europe of native Europeans
OK, I’m going to have to switch to self hosted bitwarden now
I have a keepass file that I keep synced between all my devices with syncthing. No corporations to do hateful shit, no servers to breach
Never had any problems with keepass.
Use vaultwarden. Its basically bitwarden but with a rust backend and all features automatically unlocked.
Well if it uses Rust then I gotta use it. Thank you
But for everyone else, the rust backend has a way smaller footprint than
microsoft javaC# and to selhost bitwarden without the paywall is an AGPL violation. Not that anyone will prosecute you for that but have some sort of honor code.to selhost bitwarden without the paywall is an AGPL violation.
The AGPL has no clause like that.
The original source has the paywall hard coded in because that’s what’s on the bitwarden site. If you remove that paywall you must provide the source for your modifications or else its an AGPL violation. The most common practice before vaultwarden was to sideload
.dllfiles which was an AGPL violation.Windows,

Of course you have to open source your changes again with AGPL
Bitwarden is C# so it’s going to be
.dlleven on linux.
to selhost bitwarden without the paywall is an AGPL violation.
wot if you publish your selfhosted fork that has the paywall removed?
This is allowed. The most common method though is to sideload some
.dllfiles which is an AGPL violation.yeah but materially it’s the same thing.
look all my shit gets copyleft licenses but this is why people have jellyfin servers today and not emby ones. if you want to paywall features for self-hosters, you can’t publish your source. simple as
I’m not really following what you’re on about or what’s “materially the same thing”. Regardless,
People publish GPL and AGPL code with paywalls all the time. You could fork bitwarden and remove the paywall. But why bother when vaultwarden already exists, has no paywall and uses less server memory? Its basically the Jellyfin to Bitwarden.
