How often have you heard, ‘male loneliness is one of the great social problems of our time’? It’s apparently behind the rightward shift all over the world.

And I’m so sick of people on here dismissing the issue. If it were treated with consideration, do you not think the world would be a better place?

We need to figure out who this male is. How is this guy creating so much havoc? SOMEONE suck his goddamn dick FFS. I’m hetero but I volunteer if he’s so inclined. I’ll suck him, I’ll fuck him, I’ll do anything. You all can keep complaining about the patriarchy but I’m a solutions first guy.

We can all relate to feeling lonely. This man wields an incomprehensible amount of power over the social fabric of human society, but he’s still human, and he deserves to know community, to feel love. Literally the only person who stands between capitalism and communism, and ‘leftists’ want to grandstand about being too good for him… this is the problem with the modern left.

oh for sure, after all women have to worry about whether or not the men will violently assault them or worse because it’s not even remotely unlikely, statistically. it’s much scarier for women.

but of course i assume that’s not what you’re implying here.

I’m implying both actually. I think they feed into each other. When men don’t receive any sympathy, some turn to toxic communities that do. That makes woman less safe, and more men lonely. I think the point of OPs post, is that the left simply need acknowledge this. Even if one sides issues are worse, loneliness can be very painful.

OP’s post is a bit about it being a singular male you dingus

men are violent toward women because they hold a position of power over women in patriarchal society and are taught from a young age to dehumanize and objectify them. it has fuck all to do with a lack of sympathy, and the massive amounts of violence against women from men long pre-date this new age “erm actually men are poor smol bean victims” reddit-ass form of misogyny.

            Uh. That aside…

I understand the patriarchy is ultimately to blame. I’m talking about people being pushed towards toxic masculine spaces. A man feeling lonely and disenfranchised from dating will find no sanctuary in leftist spaces should they try to express themselves. Alienated from the very group of people that would do the most to help make things better.

it’s an everyone loneliness epidemic because of late stage capitalism they are trying to sell as oppression aimed at males.

    it’s oppression aimed at poors.

Actually that’s a misconception, it’s mail loneliness. People aren’t sending letters to each other anymore and it’s really sad.

On a serious note, male loneliness is bs because it is codeword for “I want a prostitute who is 24x7 available and also is my domestic maid” loneliness is experienced by literally everyone but no one talks about loneliness experienced by gay men, lesbian women, trans people, it is always the cis straight male.

In the nicest way possible, no it isn’t. Roughly 10-20% of the U$ population has zero close friends, slightly favoring women (I didn’t find data on non-binary people, sorry!). Most reporting I can find (feel free to contradict with your own data) focuses on the lack of male-male friendships and the causes thereof, while the lack of dating or romantic experience is used as an example of the consequences. As the rates have been correlated for quite a while, I doubt gender-specific loneliness has fully specific causes that are not shared.

      CW: Self Harm/ Misogynist violence

Reporting favors cis men both because media focuses on male problems, but also because they are much more likely to kill or harm themselves and others.

Also, shockingly to hopefully no one here, poverty and disability correlate heavily with loneliness.

Right, there’s a loneliness epidemic. The capitalists identify a thing they are doing to us, divide it along lines of gender, and sell it back to us, obscuring the class component.

They destroyed and enclosed all the third spaces, all of civil society and all social relations that are not commercial in nature and now they have the audacity to blame feminists or cancel culture or whatever for the harm this is causing people.

I don’t have any data to really contradict you, I am mainly talking about the rhetoric around it because major use of “male loneliness epidemic” as a phrase has been at least in my view, as a way to create and more traditionalist society where cis het men have access to sex and emotional labour of one person, their wife, at all times. I have never seen anywhere that people are talking about creating door to services like dropping pamphlets for neighbourhood game nights or local club activity, loneliness is a problem, gendering the rhetoric of loneliness (not saying that statistics are a lie but that calling the problem of loneliness as a particularly men’s issue is bad faith) has been only to say “bring back the traditional system” I see people mainstream leftist podcasts talking about “back in the day the left over men who couldn’t have a family were sent for exploration then they were sent for war, now we don’t know what to do with them”. There’s never a conservation that maybe the focus on family alone and marriage alone as a source of companionship has been the reason for all the loneliness in the first place.

Even if you are right, the only thing you’re arguing is about wrong solutions being attempted/wanted for the problem. The problem is still real and the people suffering deserve empathy.

I never said that people struggling don’t deserve empathy, I am saying that gendering an issue like that which is almost universal and is more pervasive along the lines like poverty, disability, neurodivergence should be dealt without gendering it in this way.

Male Loneliness can be solved if you aren’t too much of a chud to think going to the movies alone or bothering your similarly-aged friends who aren’t in relationships/don’t have kids yet to come hang with you is too much effort. How do I know this? I’m an eternal bachelor in4 my 30s and will like, at least once a month, buy one of my single friends a ticket to some indie show or movie just so they are forced to hang out with me (even if all we do is meet at the movie theater and watch the movie & maybe chat on the way out!!!)

Baseball actually is the ideal Sports-related hangout, in terms of actually going to a game, if you’re a stupid American like myself; I haven’t lived in a state/city that hasn’t had some level of professional baseball within a 30-40 minute drive. Even the ~25 states that don’t have any MLB/NBA/NHL/NFL teams will still, in my experience, at least have college ball or one/two teams that are part of one of the independent baseball leagues that feed into the MLB draft.

Benefit to baseball beyond the wide availability in the US is also the fact that even MLB games are never super expensive (unless its like the World Series), the games are always guaranteed to last a few hours, it’s slow enough that you don’t have to really pay attention unless you really care about the game, they’re always outdoors, and most of the crowd is usually there to just chill out & drink. Soccer is good too, but I’ve never actually been to a MLS or USL game.

F1 is so niche in the US and I’ll be damned if I pay $200 for a friend’s single day Grand Prix ticket and then also have to convince them to spend the money on traveling to Austin or Miami or wherever it is LOL. Nascar is the proletariat’s F1 brace-dark-cowboy
