Saw is ass. I’m pretty sure the creators admitted they’re just cheaply farted out torture porn made for easy money

If you haven’t seen it, I’d definitely recommend it. Unfortunately one of the big twists of the movie is kinda spoiled if you’ve seen any of the other SAW movies, but if you have shitty memory from actor’s face’s it’ll still work.

The first movie is a lot more minimal, there are really only a couple of gore scenes, and that’s what makes them so gut wrenching. I feel like all the SAW directors after James Wan didn’t understand what made the first movie’s use of gore so effective, just saw how good the gore scenes were and said “MORE”

Edit: Will also add, originally SAW premiered at Sundance Film Festival. Now I’m not going to pretend that everything that premiers at Sundance is high art, but I think it draws a clear distinction of it not being Hollywood slop. SAW is a passion project that got gutted and exploited by a greedy Hollywood because of how wildly successful the first one was,

One of the best plot twists of all time and it doesn’t do the Fight Club “Actually the protagonist was crazy the whole time!!!” knockoff shit everyone was doing in the 2000s.

But man did it go downhill fast. They reuse footage from previous films to make flashback sequences to fill out the movies because there’s no plot. And of course they try to outdo the twist of the original with more twists, so it just falls flat. There’s like 25 minutes of actual story, 35 minutes of flashbacks, and then 30 minutes of gross-ass torture porn.
