I’ve seen a whole lot of liberals respond to this just straight up calling it fake, that it was staged by the Trump admin in order to… achieve something? Improve poll numbers, I guess?

It’s kinda interesting that, for some chunk of liberals, they’re now responding to political news and historical events in the same way MAGA always has: like its a reality television show.

Well, that seems to be the prevailing theory among the brightest of Hexbear, so you are correct.

I thought people were just joking, are some people actually seriously saying that this was some kind of “false flag” or something? Just because a would-be assassin is incompetent doesn’t make it a false flag. If anything, I would except them to be hyper-competent, like movie levels of competent in a false flag, since they’re putting on a show for the public.

Yeah, every thread on the subject has 2-3 comments near the top saying it. And not in an ironic way.

And out of anything, I think his politics are the biggest indicator it wasn’t a false flag. There’s no way they are pinning it on a centrist resistance dem who fully supported every aspect of American imperialism. It doesn’t help the narrative for a crackdown at all.

I thought most of those were jokes. Oh dear. I think it is normal to have a knee jerk reaction of “false flag” with this sort of stuff, but people really need to just be comfortable with not knowing all the details yet and not forming a strong opinion before more information comes to light.

There’s unfortunately a portion of people here whose worldview is mostly being contrarian, and they just wanna react to things without putting any effort. There’s a few things I’ve been noticing recently that are making me wish the quality of discussion here was a bit higher. I’ll just keep complaining about it and hope it gets better lol.

Unironically that’s part of how to elevate the discussion. People need to speak more freely. Related to the post damarcus linked, purple also need to be less hostile.

Back on the subreddit there was a lot of “don’t worry about the quality, no lurking! You must post! Everyone post!” Type of attitude. We should encourage participation!

No, it is not. There is no value to be gained in purposefully adding low-quality discussion. You could instead add something of significance. That would be elevating the discussion. Low-quality discussion makes the quality of the discussion lower, actually. That’s what words mean.

And in the link you are talking about, one of the points is “don’t ignore incorrect ideas or bad behavior”, which is exactly what I’m advocating for.

People need to speak more freely.

Nope. People who don’t know what they are talking about should silently read more. No investigation, no right to speak. If they are going to actually think about the things they are saying, then yes.

                  Back on the subreddit

Oh, in that case, you’ve convinced me.
