The answers from the Swedes do not look very linearly independent from those from the French.
Also there are spikes based on proximity, see the Danes on the Germans and Swedish, the French on the British and Germans, the Spaniards on the Moroccans.
Not to defend America or anything but I wonder what their decisions are based on. Actual cuisine from America or fast food? Cause we have more than just poorly made hamburgers and bad fried chicken.
Tbh I’m so tired of this ‘discourse’. Food is universal and literally every culture on the planet has developed marvelous ways to make the produce of their particular climate/ecosystem delicious. America and the UK feature heavily in these surveys because they are advanced capitalist economies, and the only truly bad cuisine is capitalist cuisine.
I blame people not really willing to try new stuff for results like these. I never went to any country and had not overwhelmingly good tasting food. You guys either suck at choosing or you use cuisine to unleash your nationalism/racism. Both sucks ass. Go into a corner and be ashamed for a while.
Fuck that shit, I lived in Germany for 3 years and they have unambiguously bad food. 90% of people have a slice of bread with bologna on top for 2/3 meals a day. It’s ok that some countries don’t prioritize food culturally, but let’s not pretend German cuisine is comparable to 90% of things on the list
That is because people are lazy as fuck and not because there are only 5 meals to chose from. Blame it on bad education that does not teach any cooking at all. Like from what are people supposed to learn? From eating meals?
Also don’t fuck with good german bread. It can be amazing and you can eat pretty healthy if you don’t put shitty cheese or meat on it (cancerous shit, it is on you if you eat that stuff).
CW: Meat description and pictures
I’ve had “bring your food to work” parties in Germany for Christmas. Coworkers from Poland bringing pierogi, from Morocco and Tunisia bringing home-baked breads and delicious tahini and making Moroccan tea, from China bringing homemade dumplings, me and other Spanish coworkers bringing Spanish omelettes, gazpacho, salmorejo, or empanada de atún. What did the Germans bring?

Germans don’t really care about food the way most other cultures do. Sure, German bread is great, bread in Spain actually sucks ass, but having one good staple doesn’t make up for an entire culture that sees food more as sustain than as celebration. I’ve never had worse slop in my life than eating in German canteens, and I’ve eaten in canteens in plenty of countries. It’s not just canteens, it’s literally impossible finding a half-decent pizza in Germany, my ex-girlfriend from Belarus said she missed gas station pizza slices from Minsk, and when she came to Spain for the first time with me she almost cried when having an average pizza here.
Boohoo people at work got their souls drained and put in literally zero effort. Maybe you should not eat in shitty canteens, where the focus lies on the food being cheap. And even then I have seen great canteens at university where you would have salad bars, fruit salad bars and 6 different main dishes, different pretty much every day in a month.
You don’t like Germany? That is cool, there is a lot of shit to unpack and yes many people don’t give a fuck about food. Many people don’t really give a fuck about anything these days. If you would be really interested in German cuisine you would do some searching. Not that you would have to, but why the hell would I take your shallow experiences for anything else? I have atleast 10 cooking books and there is not a single “Metigel” (the abomination you posted) to be found.
I love immigrants and especially the new varieties of food they bring. Why do you think they long for the food of their origin? Maybe it is because everything here sucks but maybe it is because it is a piece of home they can take with them.
Sorry if I sound pissed but it kinda sucks if people in leftist spaces pitch their ignorance (bordering on bigotry) stemming from a few experiences and hear say as knowledge.
The Danes know, they rated us just as bad as the US and Britain.
It’s true as well. We make good bread but the hot food is horrible. This is why there is a pizzeria, asian restaurant and doner shop on every street corner over here.
German bread is truly great, I’ve only had better bread in Russia.
Don’t forget the pizza + Asian + doner combo restaurant that excels at absolutely fucking nothing lmao
Yeaaaa…but you sometimes still crave their food
German food is just the wurst.
Fr go to St John Bread and Wine in London and tell me British food is trash
I’m surprised so many folks hate Indian food. I love it.
Same. Like take it from someone who grew up in a stereotypical American “Italian” home… naan is literally pizza crust and eating curry, a spiced tomato sauce with it? Please give me more of that. Oh, and samosas are so good.
Mix of racism and well seasoned food being too spicy for whites.
Also cilantro
A lot of it is vegan and a lot of it is spicy and flavourful, those two factors are the main reason, I think.
Vegetables you can’t easily identify plus names you can’t pronounce plus not emphasizing a clear aesthetic form = fear.
American food unfortunately contains black food which basically carries the category. Surely itd have to be the britsh or the nords.
British food being bad is a meme. Pies are top tier. Generally the whole 'x nation makes bad food' just reeks of racism/chauvinism/nationalism.
What most Brits eat is bad, but I assume thats because of material conditions and really if we go that direction a lot of countries should be described as having bad food
The whole thing we do where we put specific foods in specific countries is also just ridiculous and only serves to reinforce nationalism. It doesnt help my argument that there is a group of Brits who seem to insist on only cooking their stereotypical foods out of some sort of national pride, but they’ve just fallen for their own propaganda. Jellied eels is a meme and geezers insist upon it, but they’re geezers so fuck em.
It’s the same here in Denmark where we have so many people thinking all danish food is just pork. Ridiculous. Pick up an almanac or something from before factory farming and you’ll find so many fantastic seasonal and regional dishes.
On top of that as a society we decide that newer foods “don’t count” somehow. British curry isn’t really British, because it’s made by immigrants. The Danish variation of Dürum is still just middle Eastern food because people from the middle East can’t be Danish. It just reinforced conservative ideas of nationhood. Also classism.
Hate when people go “ewwww pig knuckles” (for non-vegan reasons, I love it when they do it because eating animals is nasty). You fucking philistines would have balled at eating lobster until the nice man on TV told you it was classy actually. Try the dish and evaluate it on that instead of some arbitrary idea of what part of food is nasty - For some reason the cut of meat that’s the animals ass is often good? That’s close to shit! Ewwwwww. Also don’t eat meat.
British food being bad is a meme.
Okay, but consider that shitting on the British is fun.
Best take by far. Tastes vary and every country will have literally countless options.
I am vegan btw (sorry I just miss the times were I spent most of my time on vegancirclejerk)
Thanks for posting, I’ve been saying this for ages, whenever topics like this come up. I hate it almost as much as “which country has the silliest language”.
Its always just a bunch of anglos saying ignorant shit
I mostly agree except for dutch which I’m still not fully convinced is real
Dutch sounds like danish so whenever I hear someone speak it I think I’ve had a stroke and forgotten my own language
Just like American music
I still remember the first time I ever discovered soul food. I was beside myself.
You can…*deep fry *pork chops? With collard greens and scalloped potatoes, got it to-go in a styrofoam box. Incredibly juicy, full of flavor. To this day one of the top 10 meals of my life. Aunt Kizzie’s in Auroroa Colorado never forget.
Props to the 3% of Brits that answered British food.

And to the Swedes who had to vote ‘other’ for their own cuisine
Swedish is on the list and 2% of swedes voted for it
fuck me
Also America still leading the charge in hating “French” “food” probably because they are still salty about France giving the tiniest push back after 9/11.This shit happening now makes Freedom Fries seem so quaint.
Oops forgot US is not on this and mistook Britain for Burgerland. Easy mistake I guess.
USAian food is just British food with extra corn syrup, stop pretending it’s anything more than that.
You people have obviously never been to New Orleans. There is not better food in the world. (That I’ve tried at least) Tourist traps don’t count either.
Peruvian food is better
Do love the amount of tubers they eat, but I don’t know if I’ve had much that beats a proper gumbo and some bread pudding.
the US doesn’t even have chip butties
Stop it, the US doesn’t have anything remotely close to the bottom of the barrel that is the Toast Sandwich.
I’m sure you’re just joking but jic the infamous toast sandwich is not and never has never been a widespread British food, it was a single recipe published in a 19th century cookbook as food suitable for ‘invalids’ that was just been picked up by the writers of listicles and then misinterpreted as a widespread British dish by the greater internet
But the US equivalent is the syrup sandwich…
Danes saying Germans have the worst food
Spaniards saying Moroccans have the worst food
S2g culinary nationalism is like the dumbest thing one can engage in. Unless you’re defending hummus and falafel from being co-opted by the Zionist project or otherwise resisting cultural genocide in the face of colonial domination you can miss me with that shit. I’ll gladly down a bowl of jellied eels with a bread sandwich.
I heard Israelis had the shittiest food.
The recipes are great, but the slave labor ruins it for me.
Japanese having a higher average rating than Chinese food is crazy, especially since their only exposure to Japanese food is likely sushi. Ramen doesn’t count cause not even Japanese people think ramen is Japanese (cause it came from China).
E: jfc they also gave it a higher rating than Indian food, I’m calling this racist now.
Japanese cuisine is the blandest of all the Asian cuisines so it kinda tracks that Western Europeans prefer it. But it is also definitely racism cause Japanese culture still has this allure of being “sophisticated” relative to their neighbors.
Chinese food in Europe is generally pretty bland and tailored to the older generations who can’t handle heat and don’t like foreign spices. I’ve never been to China, but I’ve heard you can’t really call it “Chinese”.
Compare it to Thai food, which is usually a lot more authentic, which is liked a lot more on the chart here.
There’s a very good reason Thai food is usually very authentic. Most Thai restaurants are established and partially funded by the Thai government.
It’s part of a campaign to improve the image of Thailand.
Case in point: the spice bag.
Although spice bags are the perfect food for being drunk at 2AM, and the pinnacle of Irish cuisine for that reason.
British “Chinese” “food” is an abomination in particular

I’m going to assume the asian and african answers are entirely racism
The Spaniards who don’t like Moroccan is 100% nationalism.
Relevantly, you haven’t lived until you’ve had Ethiopian cuisine with handmade cheese.
Italians hating on China: “eeey ohh marone they stole our fuggin’ noodles forgettaboutit!”
britain on fucking life support
imagine being more bland and offensive than swedish food
No one voted for Swedish food because no one has ever actually eaten Swedish food outside of Sweden.
depends on whether the Ikea food court counts
Surprisingly, Swedish fish are from Sweden. So I guess I’ve tried a singular instance of Swedish food.
swedish food also has alkaline horrors unfit for human consumption
At least thats interesting
Danes vs. Germans: “you took everything from me” vs. “I don’t even know who you are”.
yet more proof that the Dutch don’t have cuisine
I still remember the first time I watched a Dutchman eat a wedge of cheese like it was an apple.

well tbf as a Fr*nch person I would do this with some types of cheeses
Edit: now that I think about it, it would have to be cut before, or a very small cheese (crotin for example? although these are much better on bread). So no it’s definitely not the same lmao
I’m surprised that “British” isn’t like 90% from every other country. My expectations for food were extremely low and it was still shocking how consistently terrible it was. I fear they are not escaping the beige slop allegations.
There really isn’t much difference between the food in Britain, Germany, Sweden, etc. For example, they all basically do the same sausage and potatoes with poorly seasoned vegetables dish, just like every state in the US claims that they have a special version of pizza or hotdogs or whatever even though it’s really all just the same shit. It’s the narcissism of small differences.
Oh my god in Sweden they have lingonberry jam on toast but in the UK they have marmalade on toast and in Germany they’ll put Nutella on toast holy shit so different.
I know this is a shitpost thread but no one in Sweden has ever put lingonberry jam on toast. It’s a tart condiment used to balance savory dishes.
Doubtless at least one Swedish person has lacked culinary discipline and spread jam on toast, putting all of Scandinavia to shame.
There really isn’t much difference between the food in Britain, Germany, Sweden, etc.
Makes sense when you look at it materially instead of from a place of nationalism. Why would there be significant differences between their foods? Those regions have access to the same basic foodstuffs and have the same basic climates. Of course they’d be similar.
Additionally, the unspoken reality here is that we are all picturing some kind of imaginary essential pre-globalization cuisine and ignoring the fact that people in all of these countries are just as likely to eat a meal at a fucking McDonalds.
On top of that most users here are white and they’re performatively decrying their dislike over food without having picked up a goddamn almanac in their lives
