idk why we just can’t come around and say that inheriting your parents home and living in it is still valid as an adult under late capitalism and a housing market that’s absolutely fucked. Like it’s bonkers to still try and hold yourself to the standards of your parents who grew up in the 50’s versus the very real today.
Psychologically I wouldnt be able to stand living with my parents at 29. Id rather live paycheck to paycheck in someones garage with no future plan I just cant do it.
You’re right, but it would be nice if more families were open to allowing the children to get the home with no strings attached because like I said the housing market is never going to get better, and it’s not like anyone is seriously going to do universal housing.
Depending on the parental situation, it may be more advantageous to pick a LCOL small city or large town with okay density and diversity, and fix something up or build on an empty lot.
Whether this takes 2 years or 12 years is a matter of how low-cost it is and how many people you have collaborating on the project.

I feel you, I guess I lucked out since I don’t have the same space as my dad, but I’d rather that than homelessness.
I did the garage thing for two years, improved mentally, had to move back in with my parents, and am now getting worse again
