I mean, just look at this mess they left behind.
my favorite one is the nerve that goes down our necks, under the aorta, and back up into our heads.
all or almost all mammals have it. including giraffes.
The one thing humans do have that’s unique is all our nerves are seperate from one another for each body part. Meaning there’s a nerve going from your brain to the tip of your big toe, which is separate from the nerve going to the knuckle of that same toe. Which is seperate from the next set of nerves going to the toe next to your big toe. Which are both seperate from the nerve going to the main part of your foot.
Other animals usually have nerves like trees where there’s a larger nerve that splits into smaller ones as it travels through the body. Humans for whatever fucking reason decided to evolve hundreds of additional nerves all running alongside each other. AFAIK not even other primates have this type of nerve setup.
is this why animals seem to have a way higher pain tolerance than humans? bc they just have fewer nerves? (i know nothing about biology pls don’t hurt me)
Good question idk 🤷♂️
I’m sorry but this is totally wrong.
All vertebrates have a central trunk of nervous tissue in the spine that connects to the central nervous system, and peripheral nerves that branch out into smaller nerves.
bandwidth, man. we’re very informatically dense creatures compared to any other living thing.
I’d imagine it would be what allows us to have such fine sensations on our fingers and toes which is how we primarily interact with the world. Our fingers are incredibly more sensitive than most other animals. We can’t hear or see or taste as effectively as some but we can feel really good with our fingers.
Our feet being so sensitive allows us to map out the ground without looking at it, and in turn allows our muscles to react to the stimulation. Walking barefoot on varied terrain gives out a lot more info and effect than walking in shoes on a flat surface.
i thought that was just because our ancestors liked tickling each other
This makes sense since we didn’t emerge with footwear. We aren’t Yoshi’s afterall.
tfw you’ve cooked your back and are now realising you’ve lost the human condition
N-key rollover
Neat
time delay wire, smh at plebs not seeing superior time tested design
I think that’s also the reason why mammals don’t diversity in neck vertebra count, unlike birds. Birds get to have as many or as few neck vertebrae as they find useful, but whenever a mutation causes variation in the count of mammals, it fucks up really specific structures in the neck that basically kill the animal right away. I think that weird nerve is one of those structures.
Unintelligent design.
What a mess. Is God stupid?
we are made in His image (flying spaghetti monster)
our beautiful soft boi cyborg approves
I like the mess of wires in my body, fuck cable management.
🦒
We are one step closer to returning to a tube-based existence
Which wire is the one that turns you gay again? I think it was the green one.
DO NOT CUT THE GREEN WIRE
I thought this was going to lead into a joke about how bullets destroy the cable management.
This is why I want me a fancy new robot body
That and being stronger than ten gorillas
Ok, but say I put my brain in a robot body and there’s a collective class-conscious revolution: robot bourgeoisie versus the human proletariat. What side am I on??
Trick question
The robot and the worker would be friends

Damn, this brought back memories of this edutainment game I had called 3-D Body Adventure. It had a bunch of (more primitive) 3D models of anatomy like this and some really eerie music, and the game-y part was that you’d go into people’s bodies and zap different lesions. Found it equally fascinating and terrifying…I remember especially that you could walk around the hospital and it was very much a liminal space feeling. And I think they had this one animation that shows what happens during a heart attack and they include a voice clip of a guy groaning in pain.
