In May, an AI version of a man who was killed in a road rage incident in Arizona appeared in a court hearing. Lawyers played an AI video of the victim addressing his alleged killer in an impact statement. “I believe in forgiveness, and a God who forgives. I always have and I still do,” the victim’s avatar said.

The presiding judge responded favorably. “I loved that AI, thank you for that. As angry as you are, as justifiably angry as the family is, I heard the forgiveness,” he said. “I feel that that was genuine.”

    This country is cooked lol

edit: It’s not even good lmao

I looked into the Arizona case, the statement was written by his sister, AI was only used for the rendering and vocalisation. So it’s more like a sophisticated sockpuppet. A previous publicity stunt involving AI-generated Parkland victims also used pre-written statements, presumably written by their parents.

Hope you’re all excited to be murdered by cops and have an AI generated puppet version of yourself broadcast on CNN saying you deserved it

aiME: "I, InevitableSwing, have something to say to the three noble police officers that beat me, curb stomped me, and then shot me five times for good measure. ‘I am sincerely sorry for the distress I caused you. I wish I could say that to you face-to-face but due to exigent circumstances I am unable. Thank you for your service, heroes.’ "

Jake Tapper: “Social media critics will complain but that’s as heartfelt as it gets… And after the break - we’re discussing my upcoming book that’s coincidentally titled Thank You for Your Service, Heroes. How 'bout that huh.”
