Data published by the U.K.’s Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showed Tesla’s new car sales dropped by nearly 60% to 987 units last month, down from 2,462 a year ago.

BYD sold 3,184 units in the U.K. in July, more than quadrupling its sales from a year ago. The company enjoyed similar success in Germany, notching a year-on-year sales uptick of nearly 390%.

CNBC, the plural of Tesla is Teslas. As in “110 Teslas were sold in Germany”. The apostrophe is used for something tgat belongs to Tesla like “Tesla’s CEO is a Nazi”.

Are you referring to ‘Tesla’s new car sales’? Because the possessive apostrophe is correct. Tesla is the name of the company, and it’s about their (possessive) new car sales.

        It’s in the article

“The number of Tesla’s sold in Europe’s largest economy over January-July, meanwhile, plunged by 57.8% to 10,000 units,”

They were always going to lose some market share once viable competitors started rising, but those are huge numbers

Yeah people are turning this into a team sport but I’m just happy that Tesla created a whole new segment and spurred MASSIVE competition. This is a huge win for consumers and the environment. We have more choices with better technology which costs less.

Tesla stock is 50% up in the last year, despite losses in the EU and a poor outlook in the US.

Who thinks now is a good time to buy this stock?

Tesla’s stock price isn’t based on car sales, so falling car sales shouldn’t make a huge difference.

Maybe 10% of their stock price can be attributed to the auto sector, but when they can swing that much every week, it’s basically irrelevant.

According to data from the German KBA (January–July 2025), Tesla now holds a 3.4% market share in the EV segment in Germany (equivalent to 0.6% of the overall car market). Just 1 in 30 newly registered EVs in Germany is a Tesla.

Since 2019, Tesla’s share of the German EV market has dropped by 80%. Back then, it was 17%.

    BYD is owned by

    • Wang Chuanfu, 14th richest person in China (worth $23.5 billion), member of Communist Party
    • Lu Xiangyang, 114th richest person ($15.7 billion) – also owns cobalt and lithium mining companies in Congo
    • Berkshire Hathaway
    • Youngy Investment
    • Xia Zuoquan
    • BlackRock

For comparison, Elon Musk’s net worth is currently estimated at about $357 billion (not sure if that estimation includes recent Tesla stock prize).

Their cars are interesting. Perhaps one of the few that actually compete against Tesla. For my personal taste, they’re a bit too… big and pretentious.

edit Oh, BYD is also using fucking Android Automotive for their infotainment. And Polestar too. Why the fuck is Tesla the only EV company in the world whose head is not deep in their own ass? No wonder Tesla is still selling fine despite all the propaganda against it.

Make a decent car, anyone, please. I will buy it.

There are loads of good electric cars coming out right now, both with android and not, both chinease and European.

      To list a few:

      • Renault 5
      • Lynk & co 02
      • Ford Capri
      • Polestar 4
      • Volvo EX 30 & 90
      • Volkswagen ID (multiple models)
      • Zeekr 007
      • Mercedes

The Volkswagen Group uses their in house infotainmentsystem developed by cariad, while most chinease brands uses their in house ones as well. Volvo, Polestar and Renault uses android.

Good luck with your purchase :D

If I’m not mistaken, all the cars you listed have their infotainment system based on the Google platform. Cannot be absolutely sure though, this information is not easily available.

Good luck with your purchase :D

        Thanks, I hate it :)

The OSs are android in the bottom yes. But not including google services. They are based on AOSP and that is no bad thing. If every car maker would have to develop their own kernel and OS we would have even less features and way more buggy systems. These companies just want to build cars, most of them are already dragging their feet when it comes to digitalisation and qualitative software experiences

            kernel and OS

These are fine, but seems to me that they’re taking much more than that. The clumsy UX, that is. Tesla is probably based on Linux too.

This is my experience based on test driving VW ID.7 and Hyundai Ioniq 6 this year. I think I’ll check out Polestar 4 next, but if it sucks in the same way, I might be discouraged to try further and just keep my Tesla.

I know Lucid should have good infotainment. Buggy in the beginning but should have improved. Maybe the Midsize platform will bring a good contender!

If you aren’t opposed to US companies, look into Rivian. Aptera is also supposed to start shipping vehicles soon and is a very unique take on transportation that focuses on extreme efficiency.

I’m not generally opposed, but smaller american car manufacturers don’t tend to reach us here. Some guy just recently brought two Rivians to the country and it got into national news. So I’m guessing those two are the only ones here.
