It’s worth noting that agriculture need not inherently involve backbreaking labor with grueling hours, it’s just like that because of the drive to produce as much food as possible as cheaply as possible, even though upwards of 80% of fruits and vegetables (the most manual-labor-intensive crops) can end up getting wasted. Essentially we have a system that exists to torture low-wage immigrant laborers so that grocery stores can have cheap displays of attractive fruit to function as advertisements (and to maintain the illusion of abundance) even though much of it rots unsold because that’s not an efficient way to distribute perishable goods.
