Economic Update might be a good fit for this scenario. Richard Wolfe is a great commentator and doesn’t get too radical but tows a very progressive line that can lead to people really checking out socialism in a incremental way building on some of Wolfe’s more ‘radical’ takes.

Remembered I was playing 20 Small Mazes (excellent and free!) and was halfway through. Finished two quick mazes this morning. Been playing Word Play as well, I’m a sucker for word-based games. I often play Waffle and Bongo over at Puzzmo which are two good free ones.
Every time I open up Lutris I realize I have Dog of Dracula 2 (free cyperpunk parody of Blade Runner and the like, you’re a vampire dog…for some reason, I don’t know) which is pretty good from the hour I’ve played, so I’ll probably be playing that tonight sometime.
The other game that I might install and play tonight is The Wreck a visual novel exploring themes of grief, depression and family relationships. I played through the first hour some time ago and really liked it, but it was another game that got put on the backburner.
There is also the intriguing Social Democracy: Petrograd 1917 in which is set after the overthrow of the Tsar in 1917 Russia, you can help several parties attain power (including the Bolsheviks) and play out how each party being in power changes the scope of history. I haven’t gotten around to it because it seems quite daunting, it’s old-school style text-based interactive fiction, so it’s basically a choose-your own Russian history adventure. I’ll get around to it sometime, I just don’t think it’ll be tonight lol. If anyone is interested there it is free on itch.io and there is a browser version if you don’t want to download the files and a IF parser.

For sure! It’s the best I’ve played in the series. I just beat the DS version of the original a couple months ago and decided to reward myself with the PSP version. It takes everything good about the original and cranks it up to 11. Enjoy ;)
Personally Brogue is my go to free roguelike, otherwise I play the English translation of Shiren the Wanderer through a PSP emulator on my phone.
Nowadays I always have a literal book with me for times when I have a few minutes to kill.
It’s amazing how much of a difference it makes to be reading versus mindlessly browsing/consuming content is. I love Hexbear and one of my favorite things about it is the fact that there’s not this endless supply of slop to choke down, at a certain point you run out of content, which is great. There’s not a goddamn rabbit hole to jump down from whence I’ll not return in hours, there are posts that have some discussion but ultimately only a few that are worth engaging on any given day. Someone made a post about ‘How do we make the fediverse as big as reddit’ and I said please let’s not, it’s an excellent alternative to the constant content drip that other sites are, I for one, embrace our lack of mental diarrhea here.
Mushishi. Just finished the first series and started the second a few days ago. It’s shot up to one of my favorite animated shows of all time. Simply incredible. Also just started Zetta Shounen which has a great heartwarming but melancholic kind of feel…and it’s strange, feels an Anime with Twin Peaks vibes.
Those shows are such blatant cop propaganda it’s baffling that people take them so seriously. Elliot from Law & Order is like that, break a guy’s legs just to get information and the viewers cheer him on. For unknown reasons (possibly an undying love for Olivia) my fiance loved that show and we’d HAVE to watch every new episode right when it came out. So, unexpectedly, I’ve watched a lot of Law & Order: SVU. And yes, just like in real life, they did mean to slam your face into that wall, at least that part is realistic 😅

I’ve actually read that he is exactly like that, making up easily refuted stories and self-aggrandizing. I seem to remember one about him saying he trained with some renowned master only to have it confirmed he wasn’t even born at the time the guy was alive and active. He’s truly a fascinatingly moronic person.

It’s the worst show imaginable. And if you’re thinking,“yeah, a cop show with Steven Seagal larping as a pig would be bad,” trust me it’s even worse than what you imagine. They literally had an episodw where they called in a tank into a residential neighborhood in a small sting operation just to make Steven and the cops look badass, but it just looked pathetic and ridiculous. If I seem to remember they got a fair amount of flak for that.
