Big piece of advice I would give is: pick up a new hobby. If you still enjoy your old/current hobby that’s fine but during heartbreaks/breakups I found myself spiraling lot because they were fun things I did either with them or at least while we were together.

I saw a really great comment/take on a thread for the movie that pointed out: if DC had balls they would really contrast Superman’s experience as an Immigrant with the black coded and/or presenting Martian Manhunter. Superman is white, conventionally attractive, and fully assimilates which leads to his story being emblematic about the beauty of immigration and the American dream…whereas J’onn often has to literally mask and hide his true nature to avoid Ostracization.

One of the punchlines of that story is that President Luthor eventually institutes a planned economy to fight back against Superman…so by the end of the story the conflict isn’t even about capitalism versus socialism but whether or not the dominant ideology will be socialism with superman characteristic, or socialism with Luthor characteristics.

This kinda weird shit is a big part of why I love star wars. If it were cannon that there’s a Chucky cheese style outer rim attraction with repurposed trade federation droids doing song and dance numbers it would be entirely consistent and on brand for the universe.

There’s a flat to VR mod that really takes this to the next level. No motion controls but you can just straight up put on the headset and use the controller to walk around the world as you turn around and look at everything and just feel how alive and atmospheric the city is. There is little point in making such a small gaming device these days, basically outside of retro niche do it cuz you can startups (more on that below)… because most modern smart phones are powerful enough to do everything a Vita can do, if you set it up for emulation, or just natively play android games.

Seriously, I used to run n64 emulators on my phone from like 6 generations ago. I bet they can probably run them in 240hz in 3D now if you want. If all you want is a small tiny portable handheld gaming device then buy a USBC or Bluetooth controller/dock for your phone and never look back.

The steam deck and the switch are the only viable future for dedicated handheld gaming because they actually bridge the gap between portability And console gaming.

The ruling class has made it perfectly clear that any and all posturing and moralizing about political violence and human rights is complete cynical horseshit so inevitably you’re going to have people that call them on it. I don’t think it’s a gotcha at all, but rather an important additional point that just because all art/media is inherently political does not also automatically mean all art/media is inherently deep or complex. The saying is less the idea that all art/media has secret political messaging and more an observation that because all art/media has human voices and creativity behind it it objectively means that it has their own views and biases baked into it.

Exactly. All art and media is political. No exceptions. The degree to which you consider a piece of media/art ‘Apolitical’ is the degree to which it either reinforces or at least does not challenge the politics you consider to be ‘normal’.

Nobody gives a shit about the events that happen in your story. They care about how the events impact the characters of your story. Your audience will never get invested in the stakes of the story if the characters aren’t invested in them.
