Me, it’s “La Peste” by Albert Camus
My favorite is East of Eden by John Steinbeck. I visited Santa Cruz last week and couldn’t squeeze in the time to visit Monterey and Salinas and I was so bummed. All I know about that area is the pictures I have in my head from reading Steinbeck. I love the way he writes characters that feel so 3 dimensional. Like you could almost smell them.
What do you like about la Peste?
I love how the characters interact woth each others, and how it’s very relevant to today. Also, I like the philosophy of Camus, that the world is absurd and we have to make ourselves our meaning of life
I’ve got a few.
For whom the bell tolls - Hemingway. Best novel of all time. It gets a read every year
Shogun - James Clavell. Fun and really well written book on feudal Japan
How to win friends and influence people - dale Carnegie. Best and only self help/ sales book to read. Changed my life
Three body problem. A stunning sci-fi that explorers the human condition
Classics that I’ve read and reread so many times are Pride and Prejudice, The Lord of the Rings, and Watership Down.
Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet. Its prose is lyrical and the content is in some sort philosophical.
Probably Slaughterhouse Five. I normally would have said Catch 22 but I haven’t read it in years and I seem to reread SH5 at least once a year.
