My favorite is East of Eden by John Steinbeck. I visited Santa Cruz last week and couldn’t squeeze in the time to visit Monterey and Salinas and I was so bummed. All I know about that area is the pictures I have in my head from reading Steinbeck.
I love the way he writes characters that feel so 3 dimensional. Like you could almost smell them.
I love how the characters interact woth each others, and how it’s very relevant to today. Also, I like the philosophy of Camus, that the world is absurd and we have to make ourselves our meaning of life
