A lot of that in TOS. My favorite was the alien Nazi planet. A bunch of aliens hundreds of light-years away caught an old grainy tv transmission of Hitler and his goons and said to themselves, “We need to base our entire society around this immediately.”

Sometimes it’s both!
Wife: “Did you fuck the robot?”
Husband: “Robots can’t feel love or any other emotion! This thing I’ve made is a mere tool.”
Wife: “Did you fuck the robot?”
Husband: “It merely does as it’s told, how could it make love?”
Long silence followed by a change of topic.
And there’s also that one episode that’s like, “what if we put every single negative stereotype of a cultural group onto an analog of a real human culture”
