      I don’t know how you get the impression that the poster thinks it’s particularly important or insightful. People usually just post random things to interact with other human beings. It’s no different here on Lemmy.

      I mean, this is a top 3 boilerplate response to someone sharing something boring online. Sharing is generally a pretty meaningful activity for humans. Sharing person to person is a lot better for us than shouting things out on social media but that’s the model that’s provided and the behavior that’s being modeled.

        It’s boilerplate because it’s still true and people STILL can’t tell the difference between insightful, useful information to share, and spewing stream of consciousness like they’re a junior high school student who just learned about the concept and is ABSOLUTELY certain they’re about to blow the world’s mind with their unique and mind-blowing interpretations.

        By the time you’re old enough to be jetsetting, it’s just pitiful.

          Yeah I dunno what to tell you, I’m just pointing out that it’s not much of an original insight either. Menial, non life changing conversations are perfectly normal and fine. In my opinion what’s weird is how few people are in our lives and how little time we have to talk to them, and also the giant bullhorn in everyone’s hands when they go online. Everything becomes a stance instead of just shooting the shit and getting reproached when you are too much of an asshole about your dumb little opinion. This guy chatting in the corner with some colleagues about liking empanadas more than burgers? Seems pretty harmless.

    Comfort food is about emotion, not quality.
    I will happily munch on an Easyjet snack pack because it’s all I could afford as a student and I rarely feel hungry on short flights anyway… and so here I am thirty years later, as happy as can be with my tiny Vache Qui Rit on a salt cracker 😅

    You can’t trust ‘regional’ food at a US airport. Some of it is decent, but the supply chain is often national.

      I’ve been more than one place in the US that won’t sell alcohol before a certain hour. Like MF I’ve been up for 20 hours, my body thinks it’s midnight and I just want a damn beer.

    Who gives a shit what you eat at an airport? That’s probably the most utilitarian food imaginable. Plus, because of all the unknown international cross-contamination, there’s also the major “at your own risk” consideration. Complaining, judging, negging, or memeing about who eats what at the airport in any sort of serious capacity when it doesn’t affect anybody AT ALL is bizarre and gives me “we have Seinfeld at home but he’s just a cringe asshole” vibes.

      Airports are stressful, chaotic, and uncomfortable. I’m just surviving when I’m in one. Definitely not trying to be doing any fine dining.

    You can talk all the shit you want about MIA as the airport logistics and operations are trash, but the $6 empanadas at Versailles, la carreta on gate D37 and a couple of standalone empanada places are the best food at MIA by leaps and bounds, and way safer than any of the sushi, sandwich other of the microwave to table restaurants there.

        It seems like in us airports, you have to follow your nose to That One Restaurant That Actually Makes Good Food. Most of the places make substandard versions of whatever their chain sells outside, and for whatever reason their corporates are okay with them representing their brands that poorly. But there’s always That One Restaurant, usually a local chain, never Sbarro gods I hate that place never eat there they are the only place I have ever given a thumbs down to I don’t even think the cheese was melted on my “Arizona style pizza” I need an entire gram of weed to tolerate them and my niece loves them so I have to have a slice a year dear gods help me I’m getting nauseated just remembering eating there and I love pretty much everything

        okay haha funny wife she changed the autocorrect on my phone to change “everything” to “scrotum” because I like to write I love everything when talking about food. Or I just love scrotum that much and my thumbs are gettin real fat, could be a lot of things I guess. She’s asleep right now. I’m going to have to ask her which niece put her up to this. I’ve gotten completely derailed and I don’t care this means war. I think I’m going to… Hm. A good creative prank requires thought. Maybe something next week.

        Having been to airports in 20+ countries, they pretty much all suck. Decent meal in Hong Kong, one place in the US, and an ok one in Japan. The granola bar in the back of my pantry I forgot about until packing for trips is better than almost anywhere. Airports aren’t for food.

          What ? People are often stranded in airports for hours and have been traveling on airplanes which almost always have either no food or awful food. People are tired, hungry, sometimes lonely, and seeking nourishment. They very much are a place for food. Having bad food and terrible prices is something the management of these places and the leaders of the respective cities should be ashamed of. I’ve had very decent meals at a number of European airports and Argentina and Brazil. I’m not talking about taking a date there to impress, I’m talking about a decent meal that doesn’t fill me with regret like every single damn place at JFK for example.

            Fair enough, and I almost listed Argentina. It would be great if airplane restaurant food improved. Until then, I’ll just get snacks.

            The US is not near the bottom from what I’ve eaten. More expensive, of course.

      Seriously. I traveled 100% for work for about 12 years and I ate at an airport maybe twice, and that was only because I missed my connection and was going to be there for like 6 hours.

      Don’t see much point in visiting the airport restaurants tho

    Cheeseburger - provides a bunch of protein, fat, some salad and bread; it’s an ultimately balanced meal and one designed for sustain people (e.g through flights or staying up at night/in the morning)

    Some of us don’t eat them that often because of our culture, anyway.

    It’s definitely what I would get. I always need extra protein packed all together.

    Pizza - You just know it’s going to be nice. Need I say more? It’s less about comfort but about safety and not wasting money

        Got to the airport really stupidly early once and stayed there all night, because I was travelling with two people who also couldn’t drive. One’s dad was going to drive us but injured himself so we took a train over there 8 hours earlier than we would have.

        Tl;DR trains make people do long visits at station.

        And weirdly there were a lot of other passengers entering the airport at 6AM or sooner and they were having a great time wasting their money on everything.

        But also I presume the pizza comes already made and kept warm or something. If not, then some authentic Italian pizzas, the basic topping, softer and chewy ones, can take just 6-12 minutes to cook. People have time to sit down at cafes and restaurants sometimes :). Maybe only the USA has the speedy aeroplane infrastructure you’re used to
