If it makes you feel any better (and sorry if it does the opposite), she sort of plagiarised from earlier series including The Worst Witch and The Adventures of Willy the Wizard. Kinda all of it, including the premise (magical vs ‘normal’ kids called to a magical school, houses, many of the spells and plots, etc. so much so that the latter sued her over it (that author lost, because it wasn’t a word-for-word lift).
If you like the genre, I’d recommend reading those series instead now.
