Meanwhile, I’ve been under here for two weeks straight. I go underground at 730am, and exit about 630pm. Aside from an hour in the morning and a couple in the evening, I only see the sun on week ends. I am become mole person.

Not plumbing, man, but some days I’m sitting at my stupid desk wishing I had gone to welding school or automotive repair. It’s some grass is greener shit maybe.

Can confirm. I graduated summa cum laude in CS and created a core technology that most people use and it’s tough for me. The leet code problems have become insane, the bar is so high now. One job, I gave the interviewer a graph coloring optimization to parallelize a shortest city walk and I got feedback that I ‘barely passed’ the interview.

It’s fucking impossible for sure. My current job and best leads come from recommendations from people I know in industry. But I’ve done plenty of interviewing outside of that to little success lol. But keep at it, opportunities do exist it just takes a lot of digging. I recommend automating as much of the application process as possible, I can easily do 50 applications a day after work without too too much time investment.

I dont see how telling somebody that despite the fucked up job market and its horrible process that some work does exist so try not to lose all hope is a sigma male line. I love this field and I’m sure those who are looking for work do too, so I want to push back on the burnout how I can. And since it seems this is a bad faith convo I’ll clarify: I love the work, understanding complex computer systems, being creative in designing new things and solving technical challenges, not the big tech companies or culture around them.

I don’t blame anybody for not being able to find work in this system, I’m not defending how it works. It’s personal words of encouragement and nothing more. I can try to be helpful towards people navigating the current system as it stands while opposing its existence on all fronts too.

C’mon, that’s not what you wrote. It was indistinguishable from telling them it’s their problem and they should hustle more. I’m not going to give the benefit of the doubt to that kind of thing. In good faith I urge you to consider that.

I said keep at it, there are opportunities but they require digging. And I talked about how I try to sort through that mess personally. But I also say it feels impossible and that most of the time the standard route is fruitless in my own experience. I get how you’re reading those ideas into it but it’s not my intention, I’m being critical of the system but personally trying to be encouraging

Job security, at least. No AI down there, either. Still though, I get the desire to get out of the muck and into the AC. I got my first “desk job” at 45. I don’t miss doing concrete, carpentry, agricultural or food service!

Fitted half face respirator w/ p100 or asbestos labeled. Tyvek suit w boot and hood. Ear pro, eye pro. Nitrile gloves.

Miserable but safe as can be given the location. Fresh air being vented in/out w three 10" ventilators. Multiple radios, multiple exits, no working alone.

still hot. It never stops being hot under here. It’s still. And slightly humid. And hot. It sucks.

I’ll be finished in about a week, I think. Then I get to fill it all up w water and test it for leaks.

Plumbing. Ripping out 2,3,4,6 and 8" cast iron and running it all in plastic. Coring holes thru footers to run pipe. Coring holes in floors for new plumbing drops. Tunneling for days and days.
