1.5gal is not that much. My 15 year old can drain a gallon in 3 days. This person said “kids” so its not that crazy to have that much. I buy 2 gallons a week.
Could be the fridge isn’t big enough to conveniently hold whole gallons. Or maybe they walk/bike to the grocery and the half gallons are more convenient to carry back from the store. Or maybe some member(s) of the household can’t lift whole gallons of milk. Or maybe they’re like my family which will drain a gallon in two days then go 2 weeks of barely touching the milk before suddenly devouring milk again. Or maybe 2 members of the house independently decided to pick up a fresh half gallon of milk on the way home on the same day and now they have a gallon of unopened milk

yeah i used to drink about 1 L of milk a day for years
That’s a lot of milk
The part that is weird is the 2 full half gallons. Why not just get a full gallon and save a few bucks.

They should just buy the cow
But who’s gonna milk it, kid? You?
“You bet I could! I’m not such a bad farmer myself! C’mon, we don’t have to sit here and-”
Why buy the cow if they’re getting the milk for free?
It’s in America too. Think of all the pus in that milk lol
