Back in the day, there were police departments that would only hire the oldest son in a family. If you were a combat veteran with an older brother you were out of luck.

They wanted men who’d been leaders from the time they were children.

What day are we talking about here? Because that seems like an old house wives tale that is attempting to white wash the violent history of policing.

There was no time period where police were actual leaders or responsible with their power. The history of modern policing can usually be traced back to slave hunters or privatized security agencies who were mainly used to murder labour movements.

What in that statement says that I’m ‘whitewashing’ the police?

The police were almost 100% male, except for a few prison matrons or undercover detectives. They also had restrictions on height because they wanted officers who could intimidate any suspect.

And you seem to have a wild idea about what the word ‘leader’ means.

The part where you stated that they at one point in history attempted to restrict their hiring practices based on generally admired qualities.

So you think that when towns and cities were hiring cops they wanted people who weren’t ‘generally admired?’

It is kind problematic to say things like “all cops are bastards”

Police offers already have a tough time as it is. Let’s not make it worse.

Cops don’t enforce “the system” they enforce specific rules of that system.

Ah, I see. You’ve just arrived from Opposite World. Welcome to Reality! Unfortunately, you have arrived into a world where the cops literally do not enforce the law as written, and in fact do selectively enforce the law in favor of the capitalist class (e.g. Reckless Ben case, literally all of Black and Indigenous history in the US, literally all of the history of socialism), which were already written by capitalists specifically to perpetuate capitalist dictatorship (any other effects of these laws are side effects of the capitalists’ hustle).
