The planet didn’t invent any of those things. Lemons are a man-made hybrid of other citrus. Libraries are even more a man-made invention. And so are trains and train lovers. We don’t need to be given sweetness. We can make it ourselves.
Humans are not a separate entity from “the planet” in this sense. If the planet invented single-celled life billions of years ago, it invented us and everything we invent.
I don’t disagree. We tend to segregate natural and artificial processes, but artificial things are always natural things by extension for the reasons you mentioned.
I drew upon this distinction, though, because the idea in the post was that the world gives us things that make it sweet. I was pointing out that we can, and have, also apply agency to the world to make those good things. That we don’t have to wait for good things to be given to us. Sometimes the universe can be very stingy with that sweetness on its own. But we can make the sweetness we need for ourselves and others too.
Technically the people invented the lemons and libraries, the planet invented the people, ig? It feels weird to claim the planet invented both the people and the things the people invented because it has the very slight implication that the things are as naturally occurring as the species of ape.
“The planet” here seems to be used in the meaning of “earth and everything on it”, and “invented” is used in a broader sense of “these things appeared on it”.
I mean, the planet has no intent to be able to invent anything, if you want to play on words.
Why the fuck would you choose lemons, notoriously known for NOT being sweet, instead of literally any fruit?
That’s like saying the earth invented caves and that life really is that bright sometimes.
but lemons are sour
It is always fun to ride a heritage train and have kids constantly wave at you when passing by.
I got two free lemons the staff room today. Not sure what to do with them.
Something, something, lemonade?
I like waving at boats.
@LadyButterfly It’s me. I wave at trains.
I approve
