For me it’s Tony Benn. Probably not greatly known outside of the UK. He was one of the old guard of the UK Labour Party’s socialist faction. A man of principle and integrity, who would be ashamed at what Labour have become.

I don’t think that schools (at least in America) teach enough about Eugene V. Debs. Despite his failed presidential runs, this guy was one of the most popular politicians of his day. His imprisonment for sedition caused literal riots across the country. His release from prison was attended by over a million people. He founded the Industrial Workers of the World. Some of my favourite quotes of his that stick with me:

I am not a Labor Leader; I do not want you to follow me or anyone else; if you are looking for a Moses to lead you out of this capitalist wilderness, you will stay right where you are. I would not lead you into the promised land if I could, because if I led you in, someone else would lead you out. You must use your heads as well as your hands, and get yourself out of your present condition.

While there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element, I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free

The interview with Ali G is legendary. You can tell at the end that Cohen is trying to hide his genuine respect to stay in character

An absolute legend and sorely missed. He maintained a consistent belief in what was right and was the moral voice of the Labour Party. The loss of these socialist titans who witnessed the birth of the social and health revolutions post World War 2 are a direct cause of the terrible state of the Labour Party today - a cesspit of pro-corporate, back stabbing, genocide supporting group of individuals with no ethics. No one today carries the torch of fairness and equality within the Labour Party today since all dissent has been expelled. It’s a shame his son is so different and slots into the current crowd of Labour MPs

      It was an interesting reading.

We are up against a very evil force in this country. It is called democracy. Make no mistake: Gang rape is a democracy. Five persons say “yes,” one person says “no,” and the majority rules

      WTF

Jeff Jackson is a local guy who got screwed out of his seat and then became Attorney General. He’s very down to earth and matter of fact. His primary PR strategy is just direct to camera 1-2 minute videos explaining what he’s working on, how his other efforts are going, and what to expect from him. Go check out his social media for examples. It’s really refreshing that he tries to tone down the spin and explain why other government members are behaving the way that they are. I agree with like 80% of his politics too
