Always wondered how the fuck you do a double-blind with psychedelics. Like the participant isn’t going to know the difference between tripping balls (OK 25mg might not be that, but there’d be visuals with an eyemask and music most likely) and not (niacin). Pretty likely the psychologist is going to pick up on the Ooh, wow and Pretty!s and Oh my Gods as well. Still, an effort was made and it doesn’t discount the effects on depression.
They just don’t give them a visual inducing dose usually. Usually they are medicinal doses only
I’ve taken a lot of shrooms and doses between 3-4g and have never really seen visuals.
People can get drunk on alcohol free vodka.
I think there’s a good chance they’ll think they’re high if they’ve never gotten high before too.
Maaybe, but does niacin dilate pupils?
Humans can dilate their pupils.
But more importantly - do they have access to mirrors?
Humans can dilate their pupils.
Reaching.
Mirrors ?, there’s a psychotherapist in the room during, remember? The mask has to come off sometime.
I was just saying that study design for this is tricky as hell to actually reach the bar of ‘double blind’.
Wait, aren’t they blind folded actually? It’s probably so the psychotherapist can’t see the pupils either
Edit: yes, they have an eye mask on
It’s hard to know in my life what role psilocybin had in my anxiety and depression. I never felt specific effects I could attribute to micro dosing, would only do it for a few weeks at a time, but within a few months I’d weened off my anti anxiety and anti depression medications, made big changes to my life, stopped drinking, moved cities, and haven’t been on the medication since. I’d been on and off anti depressants since I was 9.
I think I saw stuff like this and was picturing one big trip and sudden insights, when it was a really subtle shift over time.
Or it had no effect and the other changes in my life are what did it. Or it helped me make those changes when I as otherwise stuck.
Anyway. Glad we’re moving towards legalization and researching it more. Seems very promising.
Guy’s looking out the window like, “yep, not really depressed anymore but still, fuck the outside world”
Yeah, its gonna take a LOT more than anybdrug to “cure” my depression. Fuck society and all the idiots in it.
He’s looking out the window thinking woah, the grass is the waves of the ocean.
And therefore it will never be allowed. Gotta keep people manic or depressed to control them
Trump signed an executive order intended to speed up access to medical research and treatment based on psychedelic drugs.
One of the few genuinely good bits of policy to come out of this administration. There’s no reason hallucinogens should still be classified as schedule 1 substances in 2026.
I commented about this a while back and got shouted down.
Theres a TON of promising compounds out there that dont get looked into by the drug companies because the process of developing a drug is so prohibitively expensive they are only interested in the patentable compounds that they can sell for mega dollars. It is POSSIBLE that a relaxation of some FDA rules might lead to some very interesting compounds finally getting some attention because they are finally cost effective to research.
Look at bodybuilders and peptides, you cant patent most peptides because they are organic compounds which means no serious drug company is doing research on them and because no serious drug company is willing to put the money in they dont have FDA approval, and because they dont have FDA approval theres no guarantee that what your buying is actually what the label says or the concentration its supposed to be meaning any results attributed to them is dubious.
and got shouted down.
Well, they’re stupid, because you’re absolutely right. This is some fantastic stuff happening. 2026 is way too late, frankly, but better late than never!
