The guy who created Father Ted is a massive right winger and probably supports Israel so not a perfect move.

Actually, after writing that I checked and he’s really annoyed by this, so maybe it’s a double win.

Good lord, I’m starting to REALLY hate Israel for playing the anti-semitism card whenever it feels like it. They’re weaponizing it, bluntly. At best, this inflationary use doesn’t cause any harm other than watering down the meaning of the word antisemitism. However, at worst it becomes the very reason for the genocide against all of Israels perceived enemies. Which is happening right now.

    I like this quote:

“Back in the days, an antisemite was a person, who didn’t like jews. Today, an antisemite is a person, who jews don’t like.” (A holocaust survivor. Forgot the name.)

Israel also benefits from the growing genuine antisemitism that arises from a combination of their weaponisation of the term “antisemitism” and their attempt to equate Israel with the Jewish people; Jewish people overseas feel unsafe (whether due to genuine antisemitism, or the exaggerated rhetoric of constant and extreme antisemitism everywhere), and thus more convinced of the need for Zionism.

      It’s pretty fucking fucked.

I like that quote. Anti-zionist Jews who have been protesting Israel’s actions have my infinite respect. I have some friends in that scene, and the amount of work they have been putting into anti-zionist activism is honestly insane. I’d say that I don’t know how they manage to keep up such high amounts of protest up for so long, but I already know the answer to that: they find strength in their Jewishness — regardless of whether they actually believe in God (I know a couple folks who are fairly observant despite being agnostic/atheist), they know that what Israel is doing is an insult to the Jewish culture and ethics that shaped them. That, and they lean heavily on a community of other anti-zionist Jews who understand what it means to be Jewish.

They lost that word when they commited domicide and did fucked up things to Palestinian prisonors. What was formerly anti-sematism is the objectively morally correct stance. The Israeli businesses here need another round of vandalism.

    …accused of antisemitism…

Taking a stance on Israel’s war in Gaza does not automatically make one anti-Semitic 🙄

I’d argue that anyone who claims that taking a stance against genocide is anti-Semitic, is the one being anti-Semitic…

Why? Because that claim essentially equates claiming that Semitic people have a right to genocide, or it’s an inherent behaviour of Semitic people, thus it’s anti-Semitic.

Calling yourself Semitic is like calling yourself Aryan. Claiming relations to a long dead culture through genetics in order to claim “ancestral land”.

There’s also the fact that the people who actually match the general genetic profile of the ancient inhabitants of the area are the Palestinians, not the Israeli colonizers.

Not really, Semitic peoples is an exonym coming from the name Shem from the bible used to describe many cultures from the fertile cresent and surrounding areas that share similar cultural and languages, this would include Arabic, Aramaic, Hebrew, Berber, Egyptian, Coptic, Phoenician, and Cananite languages at a minimum. In more common terms semeticic and specifically anti-semitism has become associated with Judaism specifically as many large scale antisemitic movements (against Jews specifically) in the second half of the 20th century took place in the middle east in what could be called Semitic countries for cultural similarity. This foes not excuse the current outcomes of the slaughter going on but context will help understand what is going on and why which makes things easier to change, and false facts or propaganda doesn’t help solve that.

It might give them better ratings. With so many artists boycotting Eurovision, the line-up this year is feeble. I used to go through the playlist barely without skipping, now only a handful of songs are interesting.

Example of the boycott affecting the choices. From the 16 artists competing in Portugal’s nationals final, only 2 said they would not boycott, guess who is representing PT, by televote, in Eurovision now? And the (lack of) quality shows. Put them side by side with any harmonic group from Eurovision, and it feels like when they had a regular guy competing in the swimming Olympics. They have no charisma. They cannot interpret the song, it is supposed to be about love and longing, but they just look and sound tired and confused on the stage. I don’t worry much about the quality of vocals because usually competitors improve that a lot by the performance day, but still.

Anyway, Lemmyvision is way more exciting!

At least it wasn’t the episode where he gets caught making insensitive racial jokes and then the whole island turns fascist.

Do you know, the farm takes up most of my time and after that I just like to have a cup of tea, I don’t know how much time I can devote to this whole “racism” thing.
