The state of mass entertainment genuinely makes me feel doom. Most people just want the exact same slop they’ve already seen before, or that their parents saw forty years ago, or whatever. That’s what Bohemian Rhapsody was - hey, come watch a movie where we speedrun what it was like to watch Queen concerts and music videos in the 80s!
The perfect avatar of this is the new Harry Potter show. It looks exactly the same as the movies did. It’s not a new take on the series or a reimagining or anything, it’s reheated leftovers. I mean say what you want about the books or the YA industry that they spearheaded it’s at least a little more than just a reheated version of things the boomers liked.
If and when Star Wars goes back to theaters, it will be a remake of the original trilogy, and it will be a multi billion dollar smash hit.
