But maybe that would be difficult for people to understand so we can gloss over it and just say they’re there as batteries? But then why then block out the sun, the free source of energy? Is that an actual plot hole? I always understood that the humans and machines were in a war, the humans blocked the sun to deprive the machines of energy. The machines then turned the humans into batteries.
Using them as batteries was forced on the Wachowski Sisters by the Studio because the Studio didn’t think the audience would understand the orginal plan of using people as processing power.
I mean using us for batteries is pretty dumb, we hardly generate any electricity, the AI could have just cows, as they generate more electric current than humans, and their simulation would be a lot simpler to manage.
or the space station on star trek enterprise, where the AI was abuducting aliens and using humanoid brains for the same thing to power its computing power.
