To me, the fact that the Vietnamese had to deal with occupations by the French, the Japanese, and the USA, and seem to have the most hate for the Japanese occupation, even more than the assholes who used napalm on them, speaks miles.
I’ve heard Vietnamese people come up with this or that “silver lining” for the French and US occupations, but I’ve never heard a single person say anything remotely positive about Japan’s time occupying Vietnam (which if I recall correctly was also the shortest of the occupations).
(USA nuking Japan was still an atrocity and should be apologized for at a bare minimum)
