unfortunately, being familiar with the game, no it’s toxic af. It’s debateable if Nicole has any feelings at all toward Ari beyond just the personal gratification of treating her poorly.
One of the routes has Nicole bullying Ari so hard that Ari decides to date men again because Nicole has ruined her on the concept of dating women, and Nicole’s kinda just proud of it.
Did someone come to collect Nicole’s toaster oven?
I’m not gonna comment on the game characters, because I have no idea what their relationship is, but to your point, people willingly stay with abusers all the time. That’s part of what makes it toxic.
You’re not wrong; you can absolutely roleplay toxic dynamics and still have a wonderful relationship. However, these characters are not only terrible for each other, but comically terrible people.
Toxic just means unhealthy relationship dynamic. I guess consensual non-conscent play can fall into that, but a lot of that begins and ends in the bedroom. If you have hard lines there, I don’t know that’d be inherently toxic.
Toxic relationship implies less about any one kink and more about an unhealthy relationship in and out of the bedroom.
