And I’ll still be waiting several minutes at a stoplight with no one coming in either direction.
I once asked a cop what my options are in that situation. Red light, no sign of it changing, no one is coming. He said look both ways and go. But you have to have been there for a minute (or some amount of time), don’t just treat every stop light as a stop sign. I’m sure that wouldn’t hold up in court. But, it’s also illegal to stop your engine on the road (unless it’s an emergency) or to reverse (again, same) so, what are you supposed to do? Run your gas out? Just not go to work or home because the busted ass light said so?

What? Plenty of cars nowadays auto-stop the engine when standing still with the brake pressed.
Huh. Interesting.
So you’d turn off your engine and sit there? For how long? At what point would you go? Or would you call your boss (assuming you had to get to work) and say you can’t come in because a light is red and won’t change? At what point do you just go, then? Never? Do you Uber some food to your car while you wait?
I don’t really understand your point. Any red light turns green at some point. You go when you’re allowed to, according to law.
If I were stuck behind s lot of red lights, yes, I would call my boss and say I’ll be late because of traffic.

I can tell you’ve never had to debug the embedded system that controls traffic lights in lots of municipalities
