One of the lessons of the last few decades seems to be that it’s not useful to keep western military prisoners alive, and that they should all just be immediately killed. Actually no, the Korean War showed that you can reach an average Yank PoW if you actually invest some effort into it. And just killing PoWs makes others much less likely to surrender.
True, POWs are probably expecting some real harsh treatment. If you take the opportunity to be like “hey, idk why you were fighting us, life here actually kicks ass, let me show you” you might end up with some new friends
