It’s not like being a better person is enforced on the lemmyverse outside of a couple of instances like hexbear and lemmygrad. idk maybe it’s me but it’s like why bother, why not just use reddit if you’re going to be a shitty person or overall debate pervert? Weird shit.

    Ultimately even shitty people and debate perverts can recognize that it’s better for social media to be built around decentralized, volunteer-run and volunteer-developed FOSS. Whether these shitty people manage to extend their political consciousness around the evils of big tech and proprietary software into a wider critique of our whole mode of production is another matter… Assuming, of course, that they actually have a political consciousness around the evils of big tech deeper than just the fact that Reddit took away their precious third-party apps.

    Either way I don’t actually care that much: shitty people are average people, and if average people are giving up Reddit or other centralized social media, then that’s really just a good thing IMO.
