No. Ill be the counter argument. Dont know anything about them, but I like our instance for being relatively neutral. As long as the other instance isnt doing anything illegal, i’d prefer neutrality.

Except you can’t be neutral with people spreading hate. You can’t stay neutral when a side say “I just want to exist” and the other’s answer is “We should kill you all!”.

I think we all know the poem “First they came for…”.

      Let me add that quote:

“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.” Albert Einstein

      You can’t be neutral here.

You seem to think defederation is taking a stand against something that is wrong, but defederation is really closing your eyes and ears pretending what you don’t like is not out there at all. I fail to see how this is better than doing nothing.

Besides I bet they are going to love that other instances defederate from them, they will just say it proves their point how they are the good guys and everybody just wants to censor them and hates them for who they are. I fail to understand why you would give them that

It’s not just taking a stand. I may not be clear enough. There are 2 benefits in my eyes in defederating:

          • Prevent fake news flood that you will never be able to counter (Brandolini’s law).
          • Keep this a safe space for minorities (I’m sure we have some on this instance). They don’t have to read random crap about how they should not exist or other offensive comments, and they should be able to post about who they are without fear of getting targeted.

Time has proven again and again that tolerating the intolerants turns the place into an intolerant one.

As for how they’ll take it: I don’t have the slightest beginning of hope that exchanging with them here would have any impact on their world’s vision. You don’t convince cultists with rational discussions on Internet. So let them think they “proved their point”. I don’t care.

Edit: And of course, being MAGA is not who you are, but what you decide to be through your actions, for example registering to an openly fascist instance.
