Soviet art representing the relief of the Bolsheviks that stormed the Winter Palace, knowing they succeeded in toppling the Tsarist regime and could begin building socialism in the real world. You can also see a tinge of anguish in his face, as he looks upon the oppulant living conditions of the Tsar’s family. Tsarist Russia was one of the most backwards nations in Europe, with life expectancies in the 30s. This painting illustrates the complex feelings of victory, relief, and the real confrontation of just how unequal and unjust the Tsarist system truly was.
