The #1 thing I don’t like about Steam is the forced updates. They do at least still give devs a way to offer multiple versions but most of the big publishers don’t do it.
Or, and now hear me out, let the choice to the user, especially for games with a lot of mods.
Good thing i bought Rimworld on GoG, Oxygen not Included on Steam get’s a “Oh no!” each two sessions and i’m still salty about Surviving Mars force-updating, despite the biggest modder stopping.
Both of those things exist on Steam. If the Devs want to give access to different versions they can and many indie games do.
And you can turn off updates in the settings for each game.
