Image is from the Wikipedia article on the Sudanese Civil War.
Al-Fashir, the capital of North Darfur (a little east of that deep red zone in the west of the megathread map), is the last major holdout of the Sudanese government in that state, and is currently under siege by the RSF. Losing it would be a significant blow to the SAF, though given how the conflict lines are shaping up, it seems increasingly plausible that there will be a de facto - if not de jure - partition of Sudan, unless the military situation substantially changes. This is because the RSF have been pushed out of central Sudan, while the SAF are being pushed out of Western Sudan - although, the situation is pretty complex and has been known to change rapidly before.
As has been a constant feature of the Sudan Civil War - perhaps the single worst humanitarian crisis on the planet right now when measured by numbers - the civilian situation pales in comparison to the military situation, with hundreds of thousands of children dead from famine, and tens of millions of people experiencing extreme food insecurity.
Al-Fashir has been the destination of many thousands of refugees fleeing genocide, and food and aid supplies into the town are being explicitly blocked by the RSF, resulting in scenes similar to what is happening in Gaza right now. The big difference is that fleeing from major battle zones is at least somewhat of an option, though people are often caught and robbed or enslaved or trafficked while moving to neighbouring towns and cities - and these cities are often experiencing similar conditions to places that refugees are leaving.

Australia will move to recognise a state of Palestine at the next United Nations General Assembly next month, with a condition that terror group Hamas play no role in its future governance.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Australia would work with the international community to make recognition a reality.
“Australia will recognise the state of Palestine. Australia will recognise the right of the Palestinian people to a state of their own, predicated on the commitments Australia has received from the Palestinian Authority,” Mr Albanese said.
“A two-state solution is humanity’s best hope to break the cycle of violence in the Middle East and to bring an end to the conflict, suffering and starvation in Gaza.”
The Palestinian Authority has promised Australia it would recognise Israel’s right to exist, demilitarise and hold general elections, among other commitments.
Mr Albanese said every generation had known “failures and false storms” in the decades of failure to internationally recognise a state of Israel and of Palestine.
But he said the world could not wait for success to be guaranteed.
“The risk of trying is nothing compared to the danger of letting this moment pass us by. The toll of the status quo is growing by the day and it could be measured in innocent lives,” Mr Albanese said.
Foreign Minister Penny Wong said it had been more than 77 years since the world promised a Palestinian state.
“In the nearly two years since October 7, we have been working with the international community on breaking the cycle of violence,” she said.
“We can’t keep waiting for the end of a peace process that has ground to a halt.”
The prime minister said he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a “long” and “civil” discussion.
“The arguments he put to me were very similar to the arguments he put more than a year ago. It seems to me very clearly … we need a political solution, not a military one,” he said.
Ahead of the decision, Mr Netanyahu told journalists that Australia and other nations were “delusional” for thinking Palestinian recognition would bring peace.
“To have European countries and Australia march into that rabbit hole, just like that. Fall right into it … I think it’s actually shameful, but it’s not going to change our position,” Mr Netanyahu said.
Australia has long maintained a bipartisan position that the states of Israel and Palestine should be able to peacefully coexist under a “two-state solution” and within internationally recognised borders.
But as a number of Australia’s allies, including the United Kingdom, France and Canada, say they are prepared to formally recognise Palestine next month, momentum has built for Australia to follow.
New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters confirmed this afternoon it too was carefully weighing its position on recognition and would decide in the next month.
The prime minister said last month, however, his government would only move to recognise Palestine if doing so would be a “meaningful” contribution to peace.
Senator Wong said, “September is that time”.
Australia’s recognition of Palestine would not immediately shift its legal standing.
But it would mark a historic moment for Australia to add its voice to international calls for recognition, and build pressure on Israel and the United States to find a pathway towards recognition.
“This is a practical contribution towards building momentum,” Mr Albanese said.
“This is not Australia acting alone. What we are seeing is a range of countries engaging in detailed dialogue … behind the scenes, if you like, about what peace looks like in the region.”
The Palestinian Authority’s President Mahmoud Abbas told Anthony Albanese last week that Australia could play an “important” role as a diplomatic middle power by recognising Palestine.
So that’s 4 western countries now (and possibly New Zealand according to their Foreign Minister today) who have signalled a potential diplomatic shift towards Palestine. Keeping in mind the US can and has vetoed Palestine’s admission to the UN before.
And of course all the western states including Australia are still framing this as a “Hamas evil, we want peace by working with the genocidal fascists” and will only recognize Palestine under the condition that Hamas plays “no role in its future governance”. The Palestinian Authority is still committed to demilitarizing (aka complete defanging of any armed resistance) and recognising “Israel’s right to exist” while the West Bank is still occupied.

More than 200 days of “israeli” aggression on Jenin and its camp
Occupation forces continue their aggression on Jenin Governorate and its camp for the 203rd day, and more than 22,000 citizens remain displaced.
Occupation forces closed the entrances to Jenin camp with yellow gates, preventing residents from approaching them amidst shooting and abuse of citizens around the camp.
The incursions and raids targeted the towns of Burqin - Arraba - Fahma - Kafr Rai - Al-Hashemiya - Sanur - Meithalun - Ajja - Al-Rama - Al-Kufair - Al-Jadida - Al-Zababdeh - Tilfit - Aaba - Zububa - Rummanah Junction, in Jenin, and included raiding homes, arresting a number of citizens, and destroying property.
This Monday morning, occupation forces arrested the released prisoner Khaled Ali Qablawi and the young man Ahmed Qassem Khalouf after raiding the town of Burqin west of Jenin and searching a number of homes.
Occupation attacks on Jenin escalated, including military incursions and settlement attacks, which involved bulldozing land and uprooting trees on the road connecting Jenin and Nablus.
Young men who were arrested revealed that the occupation has converted displaced persons’ homes inside Jenin camp into detention centers and interrogation facilities under harsh and inhumane conditions, without any legal or humanitarian oversight.
Since the start of the aggression on Jenin city and camp on January 21st, the occupation has completely demolished more than 620 homes, while the remaining homes were partially damaged and became uninhabitable, in addition to widespread destruction in the city and the significant damage it caused to facilities, homes, and infrastructure.
The aggression caused the forced displacement of approximately 22,000 citizens, whom the occupation forced to leave their homes and prevents their return to them until now.

Commenting on the decision of the U.S. Attorney General to double the alleged reward for anyone providing information about Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, the Arab and International Relations Unit in Hezbollah issued the following statement:
Once again, the American administration proves its commitment to tyranny and bullying, practicing intimidation and threats against all nations, peoples, states, and governments that do not submit to its dominance. The recent decision against the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Mr. Nicolás Maduro, is an example of this policy violating the sovereignty, rights, and dignity of the Venezuelan people and leadership. It is an attempt within a continuous approach to destabilize a sovereign state that firmly refuses American dictates and adheres to its national and historical constants.
While condemning the new American decision, which we see as a blatant aggression against a country enjoying independence and sovereignty, we express our full solidarity with the Venezuelan government and people under the leadership of President Maduro, who represents the continuation of the genuine national and revolutionary approach established by the late leader Hugo Chávez. This liberating and humanitarian approach placed Venezuela at the forefront of global forces defending the rights of nations and peoples, which has been and still is reflected in pioneering stances supporting the Palestinian cause and Arab rights in the face of American arrogance and Zionist brutality.

Colombia senator, 39, dies weeks after being shot at campaign event - Al Jazeera
Article
Presidential hopeful Miguel Uribe was shot in Bogota on June 7 during a rally and underwent multiple surgeries before his death.
Colombian presidential hopeful Miguel Uribe, who had been fighting for his life since he was shot in June during a campaign event, has died, according to his family.
Uribe, a 39-year-old senator and a potential presidential candidate from the right-wing opposition, was shot in Bogota on June 7 during a rally and underwent multiple surgeries before his death.
“I ask God to show me the way to learn to live without you,” his wife, Maria Claudia Tarazona, wrote on social media. “Rest in peace, love of my life, I will take care of our children.”
Uribe enjoyed a rapid political rise, becoming a recognised lawmaker for the Democratic Centre party. He was seeking to run in the 2026 presidential election.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested at the scene with a “9mm Glock-type firearm” and has pleaded not guilty after being formally charged on June 10 with attempted murder, the prosecutor’s office said.

John Oliver went into the starvation in Gaza yesterday. This feels like a precursor of the intelligentsia being “always against this” or “not realizing” that Israel was “going too far”.
Has he not even addressed israel-palestine once these past 2 years?
EDIT: I just remembered he (his writers) mocked bernie for not calling for a ceasefire
He did a sequence on the West Bank and a sequence on the “Israel-Hamas War” previously
Not surprised considering he’s just controlled opposition/pressure release valve
Imagine: There is a huge flood and you are about to die. But just in time, a rescue helicopter comes and you start climbing on the ladder. Before you are allowed into the helicopter, a FEMA lawyer presents a contract to you that requires you to invest $50k in Israeli companies. You refuse. The rescuers kick you off the helicopter and into the raging waters, where you die.
U.S. states and cities that boycott Israeli companies will be denied federal aid for natural disaster preparedness, the Trump administration has announced, tying routine federal funding to its political stance.
This definition covers refusing to do business with any company that: • Is Israeli • Does business with Israel (sells to or buys from Israel or Israeli companies) • Is authorized, licensed, or organized under Israeli law (even if operating outside Israel)
The US is such a fucked up place it’s mind blowing lmao
this is a racket, zionist firms will be able to bully clients for inferior product and prices even when non-zionist contracts have nothing to do with BDS
the entity fears BDS
even if you sign it, it’s meaningless because it’s coercion, but all law is fake so
everyone who is too much of a coward to stop trading with israel or give them a little extra gift Delibird style should at least do a really shitty job. even during iran’s beautiful fireworks display I could see aliexpress reviews like “fast shipping to israel, good quality, but it didn’t shoot rainbows for no reason and when i complained the seller wouldn’t condemn khamas so 1 star” and I’m like damn why are these not at least the QC rejects
In 5 years you will be arrested if you leave the supermarket without purchasing at least two “israeli” products
I always feel weird when I bring this up, but I feel I need to given that I think there are misconceptions about “boycott bans” that a lot of us run with. And it’s important we all understand it lest some libs dunk on us for getting something wrong.
At least as things are now, YOU can boycott Israel as an individual citizen. You can organize a boycott to get a group of people to boycott Israel. The furthest any law could TRY to go would be to outlaw organizing a boycott publicly, but even with our dogshit SCOTUS that would get shot down.
What the state and local anti-BDS laws are designed to do are prevent government entities from formally boycotting Israel. They also sometimes ban the government from banning contractors following BDS but good luck finding some petite boug construction businesses who are also following BDS. Functionally this only ever happens with universities and small municipalities. There might be some laws somewhere that disallow government employees from organizing BDS, but I can’t recall if I’m just imaging that or if it really happened somewhere.

Just not true. In Texas government employees. All government employees have to sign a pledge in their employment contract that says they won’t boycott the zionist entity. I seem to vaguely recall a teacher or someone getting fired for it but I’m not positive it happened, just that it absolutely could today right now and all it would take is a photo of you present at a BDS, pro-Palestine rally or a post on social media saying people should boycott the entity. This is 100% legal and fine by the SCOTUS because you can just like choose not to be employed, choose to not use your teaching credential, choose to get another job because as we know good paying jobs are everywhere these days.
Death death to the IDF
I have a family member who is a school teacher who was forced to sign a document stating they wouldn’t engage in BDS activities against Israel.
tbh, there are ways to boycott without exclusive boycott as legal entities, their administrators just don’t want to. Say buying bonds with aa rating or etf which explicitly don’t invest in weapons (as a whole).
