I’m not the sort of person to be interested in having more than one serious romantic relationship simultaneously myself, but I also don’t really see people’s problems with polyamory, and in theory, I wouldn’t mind dating someone who’s also seeing other people, as long as we’re communicating about it. Tbh, I think there’s a lot of things that make a lot of people uncomfortable, that to me, is just “Is everyone involved a consenting adult with full knowledge of the situation?” And if so, I simply can’t see the problem. Like, my problem with cheating is the dishonesty, not the dating or fucking multiple people. My problem with a lot of “weird” relationship models or kinks is either nonexistent or only related to informed consent issues.
So yeah, I don’t think that enforcing or promoting monogamy is something that a socialist state should be spending time and energy doing. The vanguard has more pressing social issues than who’s fucking who. But, like you, I’m not sure to what degree normalising alternative models is feasible, because I do not understand people who are opposed to polyamory on a deeper level than my “I don’t care if others do it, I’d have to have a talk with a partner who wants to do that, it wouldn’t work for me personally to actively date multiple people” position on it.
yea im basically the same. whenever someone explains their issues with poly to me im just like “? well yea ur idea of / how you’re doing poly is inherently unhealthy of course it’s gonna suck”
Yeah. I’m against unhealthy relationships, not relationship structures that defy the “nuclear family”. But then, I’m not necessarily a family abolitionist who’s against that structure, either. I don’t care how any group of consenting adults choose to organise their sexual and family life and share the responsibility for any resulting children, as long as the relationship is healthy and any children are treated well and with respect. I would be equally upset with an unhealthy traditional Western nuclear family as with a poly situation that led to unhealthy behaviors between the adults involved or towards any children resulting. I also don’t think Sarah’s three moms and two dads and several partial siblings are any less of a valid family than Emma’s one mom and one dad and little brother, and neither of those little girls should think of their family as abnormal.
Look, I probably need to actually read what Engels had to say about the family and the capitalist state, instead of just saying he was right.
