Hey everyone,
After all the nonsense Spotify has done around AI, artist pay, and other weird stuff linked to its CEO (try googling “Daniel Ek Prima Materia”), my friends, family, and I switched to Deezer. Their ethics on AI-generated content and their real effort to pay artists fairly (like their deal with SACEM in France) convinced us.
But the lack of podcast speed options and wireless device connection issues really suck.
So I sent them this email to push for change.
If you want to support a real alternative to Spotify or Apple Music, do the same!
Thanks, hugs!
Hi Deezer team,
I want to begin by acknowledging two standout aspects of your service that truly differentiate you from competitors:
-
Your transparent, responsible stance on AI-generated content. From detection and labeling to curating visibility and combating fraudulent streams, you’ve taken steps that show real ethical leadership.
-
Your partnership with SACEM, particularly the adoption of the Artist‑Centric model. It’s refreshing to see a major streaming platform prioritize fair compensation for creators. These moves convinced me (and many friends and family) to choose Deezer.
However, I’m disappointed that your user experience doesn’t match that level of innovation in two critical areas:
-
Speed control for podcasts: In 2025, not offering playback speed options (x1.0, x1.25, x1.5, x2.0) on Android or desktop clients is hard to justify. Every major competitor already includes this.
-
Streaming to connected devices: Casting via Google Cast, Bluetooth, or Wi‑Fi is unreliable: frequent interruptions, loss of control, slow transitions, or complete failure to connect. It’s a usability sore point that has remained unresolved for months despite widespread reports.
You’ve built a strong identity as an ethically minded, creator-first platform, and that gives you a unique position in the market. But if your technical performance continues to lag, you risk losing users like us, not for lack of conviction, but for lack of reliability.
Please address these issues quickly. There’s a real opportunity here. Otherwise, I’m afraid you’ll lose more loyal users who reluctantly switch to more dependable alternatives.
Thank you for listening, and I hope we’ll soon see improvements.
Best regards,
And of course if you really like the music and have the means to, buy the music. I’ll have to check out Deezer. I’m on a family plan for Apple Music so I’ve just stuck to that for the past 10ish years.
I don’t really purchase music anymore, but I attend as many concerts as possible.
