My partner wants a punching bag and i think she’ll spend up to 3-400 dollars for it. Are there any of those stands to hang a heavy bag from that you don’t need to buy extra weights and shit to make stable?

*she’s already said no to getting one of those spider frames and screwing it into the ceiling even though i think they’re really cool kitty-birthday-sad

It’s more expensive, but there are bags used by some gyms/dojos that are screwed onto a base that is filled with water to weigh it down. The semi-iconic example is “Bob,” but you can get ones that are simple cylinders too, and I like those better personally.

I’ve seen like the wavemaster and iirc uhh like a century/centurion/whatever I’m sorry I’m drinking bag with a standing base that you fill with water or sand/water. You think you’d go wityh something like that instead of a frame to hang a standard bag?

I mentioned the BOB options to my partner but she doesn’t like it. I think it makes sense to train yourself to attack a Generic Cracker but like I said, she’s paying for it, and she doesn’t like the idea of that sort of bag.

It’s not really my first preference, I just wanted to point it out in case you would come to the determination that it was the best option in the absence of plainly better options like actually hanging the bag. It works okay, especially if you’re more focused on punching (kicking it more likely to knock them over).

Depending on what your partner’s actual interest is, it might even be better to just have a speedbag or something. They seem like they can be pretty therapeutic.

First, check if your area has a buy-nothing or everything’s free group

Lot of people pick up boxing gear and then drop it, so you might get lucky and get one for free

Otherwise, a heavy bag is a bag full of sand, so it really doesn’t matter much aside from finding the right size and weight

As for stands, I’m not much help there, my basement has rafters and I just hung it up there

Why’s she against hanging? Does she not understand that all stands are inherently worse? Sorry I don’t have any other tips.

I think it’s because we’re new home owners and the thought of cutting into the roof to access the rafters and then patch it up and potentially have to do that again if we need to move it seems like too much/it’s scary, so the thought of a stand that could be moved around seems better. But we need to make sure it doesn’t wobble around a lot and fuck up the floors and shit

I think the spider mounts are cool though, it seems nice to have it able to swing around without a stand getting in the way, and they seem quiet (from videos lol)
