I am used to saying expressions like inshallah and mashallah due to how many other people in my (Albanian) family say it. Unfortunately I am as white as can be and I am French, so people often find it strange when they first hear me use these kinds of expressions. I’ve also gotten a few variants of “I didn’t know you were Muslim” (I am not).

I live in a very white part of amerikkka (i’m wh*te) and am always so excited when I get to greet someone with an asalam aleykum

Inshy’allah

I had a 60+ teacher at uni occasionally dropping “inshallah” he was cool

Virgin: inshallah

Brad: alhamdulillah

Chad: Ash-hadu an la ilaha illa-Allah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasul-Allah

I don’t know how or why it started but as a former Muslim I love it. Feels inclusive, antiracist, and destigmatizing of Islam, not like cultural appropriation

People who don’t want to say “Inshallah” can instead simply say:

"“Mā kullu mā yatamannā al-marʾu yudrikuhu, Tajrī al-riyāḥu bimā lā tashtahī al-sufunu.” Not all that one wishes for is attained; the winds do not blow as the ships desire.

Okay, it’s probably too long and there is nothing wrong with “Inshallah”. I just like this beautiful little proverb with a related, but non religious meaning too (even though my Arabic is almost non existent). Try to practice saying it, even if you don’t speak Arabic. Thanks to the nice rhyme and rhythm, it actually becomes really easy to remember after a while.

The author might be Al-Mutanabbi, but it was never confirmed and it could be a pre Islamic author.
