  • For solo play this week it’s been an Ace Combat-like in Project Wingman. This is my second playthrough and I’m now on the hardest difficulty which is infuriating but it sure gets the blood pumping. Awesome game with incredible visuals.

I’ve been playing the various Zelda multiplayer games with my friends recently. We started with Triforce Heroes emulated on Azahar which is a 3-player dungeon-looter. After we beat it and all its bonus content (there is a lot) we’re headed to Four Swords on the GBA (VisualBoyAdvance-M has netplay) and then Four Swords Adventure on GC (via dolphin netplay).

Other than that I’ve been playing a bunch of Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour on dolphin netplay which has a controlled host-migration feature which means 0-input latency for the player whose turn it is. If you aren’t familiar with dolphin netplay it rules and feel free to ask if you get confused setting it up.

  • Skyblivion is one of if not the most impressive videogame passion projects of all time and I can’t wait as it nears its release. It’s an entirely fan-driven remake of Oblivion in the Skyrim engine for those unaware. All assets have been made from scratch and the variety of skills, talent, and coordination required to pull this off is inspiring. Seeing examples of passionate people working on something collectively at a massive scale, not for profit, is surprisingly critical to retaining my sanity right now.

Here’s to a 2025 release, but I hope that team feels no pressure to crunch and lets their projection slip to 2026 if need be.

If anyone else is aware of other large collective creative projects and is willing to write a short blurb about them I’d love to read it.

  • Fun NBA story. Hansen Yang, a Chinese Basketball Association player, was drafted about 40-50 spots above his draft projection by the Portland Trailblazers and everyone was doing some major headscratching about how much ofba stretch the pick was.

Fast forward to today and he’s tearing it up in his 2nd summer league game after an incredible opener a day ago with court vision way, way beyond his age.

He has a few things to figure out (primarily defensive intensity and also needs to put more muscle on like most players as they transition to the pros), but he’s been incredibly fun to watch and I can’t wait to see him develop more. Incredibly exciting player and a joy to watch in his early, early NBA career.

  • You hit the nail on the head. It’s a fundamentally flawed game as a result of its original pay-to-win design that was merely band-aided over by converting it to a progression system.

The only way to assess it from a balance perspective is in a lobby where everyone has everything unlocked, and that’s infeasible because of player retention being so bad.

I’m hoping Kyber (private servers) take the structural bones of the game (technical performance and aesthetic) and allow modding to fundamentally mechanically change the game to the same extent that modding has for skyrim because I don’t believe a better base for community improvement will ever exist.

  • There will be a cascading effect of rural healthcare providers folding due to lack of medicaid funding causing overstrain on suburban and urban health systems. This will further increase care costs and wait time while simultaneously decreasing the quality of care throughout the entire system which was already cratering prior to this proverbial gunshot wound.

Many more extremely vulnerable people will die as a result.

ICE funding was massively increased (I think on the scale of 17-20x yearly) which will further enable the Trump admin’s war on specifically Democratic-led cities. It seems pro farm-indentured servitude capital has convinced Trump of the necessary of undocumented migrant works to keep the profits high against Stephen Miller’s (probably the largest and most powerful Nazi ideologue I’m the administration) wishes. The hospitality service will probably end up striking a similar deal giving them absolute economic power via threat of selective deportation over their undocumented workers.

I’m sure there are many other facets of BBB that are additionally horrendous but at this point spending my time on “here are the specifics of domestic American horror” just feels like a waste. It’s going to be terrible and I hope my American comrades are able to find at least some sense of unrelated personal peace in the novel depravity that awaits us.
