Losing Gawker was a big turning point for the public not having a consistent satirical biting rag news site. Looking back, losing gawker probably contributed to the enshitification of Reddit too with the influx of Gawker commenters. We may never have been able to avoid the current reality but if Gawker was around still it would have certainly been different.

Interesting. I mean, I’m sure Bernie has faults but I don’t really see the point in attacking someone who created and is holding the only tent pole for, frankly, a reasonable middle of the road candidate (if we view him in comparison to the rest of the sane world).

I get giving shit to Corey Booker. People are gray. I can list a handful of things that Corey has done lately that fit this meme.

I honestly don’t even know what this meme is referring to maybe I’m out of the loop.
But I agree with you, attacking Bernie isn’t the way. Reeks of agent provocateur.

My guess is it’s a fresh wave of propaganda to wedge the progressives. What’s new.

People don’t have to be perfect for us to join the cause and make it better. Don’t fall for it kids. We only get out of this if we ignore this bullshit and link arms.

Ps: and look, I get it if Bernie isn’t left enough for some of you. That’s ok to feel that way and it’s probably true for a good lot of you. But attacking him ain’t gonna solve the massive fuckstorm we are collectively going to go through. We either quit bullshit like this or die from factionalization. Like every other movement has in the past 95 years.

  • I’ve started to see that argument as a threat instead.

Oh you want a living wage do you! Well if you manage to get your way I promise me and all my buddies will purposefully jack prices up to wipe out your raise. You want the number to change? Fine but know that if you do your earning power will stay stagnant. How? Because we are the invisible hand.

I theorize that this is what happened when people had a bit of breathing room in 2021. People got a sliver of security and then “all the sudden” the prices got jacked up in every sector and every product way beyond the levels needed to offset supply chain issues.

Living wage doesn’t drive inflation—oligopolists do.

  • I believe it. They disavow that they take any recordings of us before we approach but, while I’m not a suspicious person, I am suspicious of TSA and HLS. Heads up they’re going to start scanning our faces at physical border crossings in cars now too. We have the same right to refuse as citizens but you know how good that is if you’re dealing with a crooked agent.

Masks help when approaching but obviously not a cure all when you have to move it to be identified by card

I hate that this is a conversation we are having.

  • Haha I was kind of being a bit tongue in cheek and joking around about the state of the world. I’m sorry if it came off as super serious—I was making a goofy comment.

The entire world feels like a matchstick—will it snap or set itself on fire?

I do believe Germany is leading the world right now but that is not a great development. It’s actually a position that reinforces and exposes how fucked we all are. I also think that Germany’s leadership is incredibly tentative and fragile. Germany reminds me of America way too much in the worst ways.

The state of German politics and the rise of authoritarianism in Germany is something I worry about, genuinely, daily. I follow your elections closely and your politics.

This is the real reason I started learning German. Because I have no illusions that human decency will continue standing. Most of our shared suffering is because economically we are all being crushed by a few outrageously rich evil entities. We face this together.

I do appreciate your perspective though and I am aware of what’s going on there with the Ausländer and systemic issues. It’s scary honestly and I’m sorry if my joking made it seem like I was making light of these issues—I never meant it to come across that way.

As for the crisis with your cost of living, economic opportunity and especially securing affordable housing. I saw one German comedy video put it succinctly: Was wollen Die Parteien eigentlich machen mit meinen hohen Lebenshaltungskosten zu helfen?

And the “answer“ from every Partie was: Also wir wollen dir helfen indem wir Ausländer abschieben!

Actually, I’m a lawyer so I appreciate the detail you put in to explain because the Tägliche Nachrichten I can read doesn’t go into detail like you have—so thanks!
