  • Couldn’t agree more. After moving states and deciding to switch careers, I had a 15 month under-employed lull and got desperate enough to attend a job fair held in the delapidated basement room is a hotel. Not just one of the most depressing experiences of my life, but a total waste of everyone’s time. Bank teller, security guard, or food service were the only options.

    I ended up getting a job the old fashioned way* (had my dad who owns a dealership call in a favor).

    My advice - have your dad who owns a dealership call in a favor. If that doesn’t work (maybe your dad doesn’t own a dealership), then I recommend looking for work in public or private infrastructure - utility and telecom companies tend to pay well and union benefits are great

    My dad owning a dealership is a joke. The old fashioned way in this case was applying to enough jobs that one was willing to hire me at about 50% of what my previous job paid
