I felt like a wizard as a kid because I knew how to defrag the hard drive and degauss the CRT.

Smullyan would be proud.
I love the intro explaining that sweet spot between something you are interested in and something everyone is talking about. Great video!
Lots of folks saying “why don’t you just dry and put your dishes away?” but I have this exact model and use it mainly for storage. Zero cabinet space in my tiny kitchen. With this I can actually own enough plates and bowls to feed guests!
That is really cool. I would love to implement that in a VR world, but I’m guessing the dithering might not line up for both eyes and it would be annoying.
Squid: “Nobody at home’s ever gonna believe this.”
First I just want to say, that is a damn beautiful website. No ads, no popups, just pure information.
And second, as a former back end developer who has spent a huge amount of time working on input sanitization and building database schemas, that list gave me mild PTSD for a job I have never even had.
It would be really fun to see a modern mockup of the world he envisioned for 2014. Elevated moving sidewalks with benches, transparent cubical 3D displays, automated kitchen and glowing wall panels.
I haven’t even tried the application yet, but that website is pretty damn cool!
Somethin’ like a fish.
I’m assuming this only makes sense when the client can do something useful with an incomplete json object. I wonder how much extra overhead this would require on both the server and client side.
One of my favorite people! If you’re at all interested in computer graphics, math, fractals, or art, you should really check out his work on shadertoy.com. The hundreds of projects he has shared there are an incredible educational tool, not to mention many are just jaw-droppingly beautiful. Here’s a link to one I particularly enjoy.
One time while reading on my phone in bed with the lights turned off a single solitary firefly-like point of light appeared and drifted across my field of vision. It had depth, so I know it wasn’t a phenomenon originating just in one eye, and wasn’t constrained to the screen. There is also a zero percent chance it was an actual firefly. My only explanation is that it might have been a hypnagogic hallucination, but I’ve never seen one as bright and clear as this was. Like an ember from a bonfire.
Cutting the bombastic horns, drums and BWAAAHs by 90% would make this trailer so much better. Love the look though.
Integrated development environment, or a glorified code editor. Your welcome for introducing you to the phobia.

I am glued to my IDE more often than not, including weekends. Lemmy is my little respite to get a random sampling of posts on all kinds of topics. Don’t get me wrong, I think AI generated images are pretty fascinating. It’s just that some can trigger a trypophobia type response with their eerie realism.
I really wish these nightmare fuel AI images were tagged NSFW.
I feel like even AI will be able to emulate this kind of speech, but the upside is people with dementia won’t feel so alienated anymore.
