As someone who lives in Toronto they’re a god damn corrupt force that does jack all. it’s a damn weekly thing where you’ll read in the news ANOTHER Toronto cop on paid suspension for something. AND then it’s a yearly thing when the city budget comes up and surprise, surprise TPS asks for more money. And the beauty of it all is that city council isn’t even allowed to debate the amount. they can either say yes or no.

yeah I remember a year ago when they said the same. They keep moving the goal posts because they HOPE it’ll happen, but it’s not going to. LLM’s across the board, regardless of the company, have progressively become worse. Like I just asked it “With the Fish Shell how can I get cat <<EOF > notes.txt to work?” it didn’t know how. it presented 3 options all of which were wrong. It claimed I was using an older version of Fish that doesn’t support Heredocs. that’s not true. Fish doesn’t support Heredocs at all, period, and never has.
wait for the free trial, sign up with it using like a gift card that has a few cents on it or an empty paypal account. trial lasts like 2 weeks but you’ll get more than a month as they email you daily “we can’t charge your account, you’ll lose nitro in 3 weeks”
Repeat this every time they offer you a trial, which they will, without verifying that you’ve already had a free trial. I’ve had Nitro for months doing this and have never paid them a dime.

We’ve known about the Housing First initiative the world over for years. Housing First with needs based assistance works, it’s proven to work. we know it works. Addiction and Mental Health issues are symptoms of being homeless.
We know the solution to the “complex” issue of homelessness. We know how to fix it. There’s just no money to be made in doing so. So we won’t fix it even though we can.
the thing with NixOS is there’s really no right or wrong way to configure your system. I know a guy that just straight up has a single configuration file and then just uses comma for everything. like practically nothing is installed. when he uses firefox its “, firefox” in a terminal. he likes it.
going the Dendtritic Approach.
I recently changed my nixos configs to this approach. Takes a bit to remember where I put everything and what modules things are in but in the long term it makes things easier to manage. Also makes things easier if I need to turn modules on or off for whatever reason.
That being said does take a bit of work to get everything set up but in the long run it’s worth it.
In Canada the government was providing something like close to $3000 per person during the pandemic if they had lost their job or were unable to work due to covid on the condition you pay it back. many people ripped off the program, many people didn’t pay it back, government has kinda been mute on the whole thing since then. Guy I knew got it twice and could argue he didn’t need it (he was a POS). never paid it back, didn’t hear a peep from the government and still hasn’t. continues to pay his taxes annnnnnd nothing, no one has ever come calling to collect.
Another thing is during the pandemic we were putting homeless individuals in hotel rooms for months on end. we paid for it. we “suddenly” were able to find them housing. People were working from home remember that? nothing collapsed, companies continued doing well. Then suddenly the pandemic ends and now for whatever reason we no longer have housing for the homeless, we can no longer put them in those hotel rooms, and we’re forcing people to return to work. We no longer have money for anything?
it’s not that we didn’t learn anything, the people sure as fuck did learn something, It’s just that there’s more money to be made by the powers that be going back to the “old ways”.

I’m currently using Niri and sure it’s not a DE it does an excellent job of workspaces. each monitor has its own set of workspaces by default, no configuration needed.
I don’t use Dank Material Shell or any of that but in all honesty if you wrap Niri in DMS or something like it then it actually becomes a near perfect DE. Even the Niri devs now suggest you install Niri with DMS.
pretty much. DDG for example uses a bing-yahoo “alliance thing” (can’t remember what it’s officially called but Microsoft and Yahoo have a sort of partnership in this regard).
Your options for actual first party search options are literally pretty much the ones you listed. Yandex is russian so not trusting those guys anymore than I trust Google or Microsoft so that just leaves Yahoo which is…yeah.
Honestly people are just better off using something like SearX or 4Get. they’re all the same except with those two you’re not going to get the AI slop or ads.

All KDE has to do, literally all they have to do, is make dedicated virtual desktops/workspaces per monitor and i’d be happy. that’s it. I would daily drive Plasma if they just did that.

KDE is good but please, for the love of god KDE devs, you need to realize that some people…a lot of people actually…use more than one monitor.
