Gotta love climate change… it sucks to have a low body temp. Whatever temp you feel uncomfortable at, that’s my same comfort level anywhere from 8-10℃ cooler. So heat waves are particularly brutal on me.

If the fines were directly proportional to income and net worth, I would have absolutely no problem re-instituting those speed traps.

But if it’s a flat rate… any fine that that is a fixed number is meant to punish the working class for the crime of being poor.

And the wealthy will just see it as the cost of having fun, and pay the fine with the spare change they normally forget about in the bottom of their pockets. They’ll just continue doing what they’re doing because fines fail to impact them in any meaningful manner.

Can’t recall where I last saw it, but many larger roads are designed for speeds up to twice the posted rate without significant increases in accidents.

Now granted, a big problem in Canada is driver training and vehicle condition, but if Germany can have autobahns with no speed limits, why can’t we? All it would take is a decade or so of gradual re-authenticating skill levels, and a significant inspection system for vehicles. But that’s the trade-off needed if you want to have safe roads at any speed.

Note: for training, it would include extensive mandatory training, pass/fail limits that are far more stringent than what we currently have, and include new driver behavioural features like two lanes pulling apart when a traffic jam occurs, so that emergency vehicles have unrestricted passage – with no non-emergency vehicles using that “shortcut”. For vehicle inspections it would be a level that demands showroom-pristine condition for all vehicles: no visible rust, no nonfunctional parts (even superfluous ones like AC), and the ability to take hydraulic rams to different body parts (underside, body panels, etc.) without the ram punching through due to rust-weakened panels.

This would absolutely trigger the “muh freedumb” people, but you cannot have higher speeds without more stringent safety measures in place.

Just like the opposite of addiction is not sobriety but connection, so the opposite of depression is not happiness but vitality.

Because that is what most depression saps out of people - the vitality to do things, to live life, and to give your own life meaning and the strength to forge ahead.

Sometimes people can handle depression on their own. Most of the time, however, help of some sort of help or assistance is needed. Never be afraid or let yourself be shamed for reaching out or accepting help, because we all need help once in a while. As the Good Captain once said, “It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life.”

And while uncultivated ignorance can still be educated away, beware cultivated ignorance – these people are maliciously ignorant, and are intentionally trying to hurt you.

Which is why we really need to build cheap, simple, and purposeful aircraft. We need to move away from “everything AND the kitchen sink” aircraft, as multiple conflicting roles frequently reduce an aircraft’s effectiveness in any one role. Have five completely different fighter aircraft, if necessary, in order to ensure we can continue to maintain them via simplicity and ease of parts manufacturing. And to be able to drop an entire model to focus on the remaining ones, if necessary.

Companies will absolutely ignore advance examples like Klarna in the minuscule possibility that things will work for them where it has always previously failed, and that they will profit massively from it.

Klarna got lucky in that they backed out just in the nick of time. Other companies will not, and either collapse from leaving users or a failure to hire back staff quickly enough.

Which means that an attempt at seizing lebensraum should not be dismissed - Trump is already replacing key members of the military command structure with loyalists who will obey any command, no matter how unconstitutional. I mean, just look how the California national guard is being forced to play backup for ICE in California, against the wishes of its governor.

As Canadians, we need to be ready to make their lives very miserable when - not if! - this attempt at seizing lebensraum happens and America tries to make us the 51st state.
