great! the world is a shithole because of assholes, so let’s just all be assholes… what an asshole self-fulfilling thing to say
personally, i prefer to leave the world a better place than what i found it, and people better off for my presence in it

Dunno if “gay” makes people LGBTQ
calling people gay as a slur implies that it’s a bad thing to be avoided… when kids start to think they might be gay, if it’s had trauma and bullying attached it absolutely leads to self hatred
and that’s a self-reinforcing cycle
do you want to explain why not?
the self harm rate for trans people is relatively huge, so the mental health toll on them is clearly enormous… just because they’ve only recently felt strong enough to start fighting for their rights doesn’t mean trans people started to exist recently… trans people have always existed, and just lived in anguish and shut up about it because they didn’t have the collective words to describe their experience
nobody is saying they’re comparable - the experience of black people in america is completely different to the experience of trans people
but let’s not say that either is worse than the other: both have suffered hugely for long periods of history, and both continue to suffer
judging by the votes you’re far from alone
that’s because it’s privacy first… in that case, privacy is really the only reason they offer the option. in this case, it isn’t about privacy. they want a system with stable value that can be transferred quickly from consumer to creator in the creators preferred currency
Tankies: 🖕
always pertinent
if i found out someone was using a voice changer in an interview, that’d be a massive red flag for me
this suggests that skill level plays a part in escalation. i’d argue that refining the “fantasy” is absolutely part of that (the same is true of the psychology of all fetishes: you start with something you’re not sure you’re into, and as you refine what it is about it you like you can dive deeper)
https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0093854813485575
this paper suggests that both thrill seeking and self control have different impacts on people’s desire to commit crime
i agree with that research, and i agree with where you’re coming from but i’m not sure you can apply the same research to violence. there’s an argument that it gives people an outlet, but afaik also people that commit these crimes often escalate. making it easier for them to try out their fantasy could easily mean they escalate faster
i’m actually okay with something like this, assuming it doesn’t give useful identity information but instead gives unique tokens to services (that can’t be used for tracking an individual - which is the real problem with these age laws)
i think a system like this should be in place for pretty much all identity verification: banks, real estate, etc… where they can verify identity without the need for an identity document (scans of which can be mishandled, give more information than necessary etc). really, it kinda has to be government-led because they’re the arbiters of official identity to start with, and i wouldn’t want to have to have all my identity proofs in 4 different company systems
ephemeral digital tokens is more secure, more private, and simpler for everyone involved
i’d love to see linus revoke twitters license to use linux somehow
source code? i don’t think you know what you’re talking about… it’s called a prompt
SLASH
ESSS (emphasis because hate it)
right? like at the time we had YUI and then bootstrap came along as a breath of fresh air
but for things like lemvotes, they can block the faux-instance that they’ve created to get the data… if they were to get the data via .world it’d be almost impossible (without inside information) to know who to block - and it’s .world, so blocking that is a big choice
i wanted evidence the nazi prop was false.
okay and i want evidence that it’s true before spending time and energy debunking something that is just a wild claim presented without sources
the burden of proof is on the claim not the defendant
and my point was related to the bullshit principal- there MUST be a cohort of links debunking the claims.
that’s absolutely not related to the bullshit asymmetry principal other than it being a prime example of it: it takes minimal effort to write a post asking for evidence - sincere or not, btw, there’s no way to know if you’re acting in good or bad faith - whilst it takes a lot of effort to do a web search by comparison, which you could also spend time and energy doing
if you provide evidence pointing to the fact that ukraine has nazis, then that does 2 things:
assuming you don’t believe the ukrainian govt has a nazi problem, this is also a core part of the scientific method: don’t try and prove what you believe; try and disprove it and if you can’t then what you believe is correct… dig up any real evidence for the claim, and if you can’t find real evidence then it’s nothing more than putin making a claim for unknown reasons when he clearly has an agenda
oh DEFINITELY put it on a UPS: brown outs can be absolutely catastrophic for computer hardware
that’s just synergising industries to increase efficiency and effectiveness of under-utilised resources!
/S
the original burden of truth rests with those making claims… there was never any evidence that ukraine had a nazi problem, so why should we or they have to prove a negative before the original claimants provide any evidence at all?
“just asking questions” isn’t “just” it’s also repeating an idea, which absolutely is helping that idea remain and spread… by “just asking questions” that have been asked for years and years and years with no evidence to support the questions, it becomes entirely propaganda
see also: the bullshit asymmetry principle
well of the people downvoting this “theory” of yours right now, 3 of 13 are .world so i’d wager that’s a load of crap
and as for brigading, .ml users get downvoted to hell across to fediverse in comments… their opinions are just horrible and their arguments are not made in good faith
again, that’s a choice you made… you can make your own clothes out of linen and the tools to do it are more available to you because they’re not hand crafted, but you choose not to because you want to save time
heck, you can buy a shirt that’s 5x the price that will last but you choose the cheap shirt so you can have 5 of them
this is the same argument that we don’t build the coliseum any more and therefor we’re not as good at making concrete as ancient romans… modern society is built on engineering, and engineering doesn’t build things that lasts 2000 years that’s true, but that’s not what engineering is for
engineering isn’t about building bridges that don’t fall down: engineering is about building bridges that barely stand up so you can have more of them
the same goes with clothes… modern clothes aren’t made to last your entire life because they’d cost 5x more… people don’t actually want a shirt from their 20s when they’re 70 - people don’t even really want a shirt from their 20s when they’re 30! they want 5 shirts in their 20s and 5 more in their 30s, and they want to be unique and personal and they want to spend no time to acquire them
